What kind of idiot smuggles pot into California?

I flew back from Canada and someone a a few people in front of me of me got pulled out of line by customs and as he was walking away he was saying that it was just pot for personal use. Who the heck smuggles pot over an international border to a place where it is readily available everywhere?

I can sort of understand it but at the same time it's quite obvious this person was not "hip" to the law(s).

Weed is legal in Canada.
Weed is legal in California.

You can bring alcohol across the border but can't bring weed which is legal in both Canada & California? If there ever was a reason showing how outdated and out of touch we are as a society when it comes to weed, this is most certainly it. I don't blame the person bringing in a small amount of weed to the country. I blame out prehistoric laws and the lawmakers who have done nothing but exacerbate the problem.

BFD, the person had a little bit of weed on them for personal use. And?
Canada makes this country look like we're living in the 1800s still. Canada is what America *should* be for all intents & purposes; from healthcare to our social safety net.

And this guy isn't going to face California law, his actions were a federal offense so he is facing prison time. You should always check the laws on what you are bringing into a country, even food can get you into a lot of trouble.

You can bring tobacco and alcohol in & out but weed? Nope we can't have that now can we?
It's outdated and backwards thinking. Nothing but.
Nobody should be facing prison time for this. Nobody. If he was trafficking, ok fine, but I'm sure some random dude from Canada with a baggie for a few bong hits isn't Pablo Escobar or the head of the Sinaloa Cartel. Meanwhile cops walk the street after killing black people because they had weed on them? Nah. The whole system is ancient & needs to be completely upended and redone.

It is a raw agricultural product until processed.

What's also true is the face palm involved in an ever increasing level of 'entitlement.'
At what point do we get a little fed up with the boatloads of knuckleheads - that just don't think any of the rules apply to them? Myself - I'm probably not going to 'assume' a whole lot of anything - when it comes to entering or exiting a foreign country. Get your sh*t in a row before heading to the airport! The 'no big deal' argument is just kind of - juvenile. And tired.

Nobody should be sitting in prison for this. Stuff like this is why we have the highest rate of incarceration in the world and many of these dinosaur laws impact POC.

At what point do we begin changing these laws & voting out the people who support them?

when it should be legalized regardless of what country. It should be treated as the same as liquor.
If you can cross the border of countries with alcohol then you should be able to cross it with weed too.

Just because something is law doesn't mean that it's right.

he's just an asshat trying to slide through customs with prohibited items.
(and by the way, better luck with that in US or UK - rather than in Hungry or Myanmar)
