Russia's excuse for the atrocity

Well, I guess that Russia is running to the UN to make it's excuses for what they did:

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russia-asks-un-security-council-discuss-bucha-provocation-2022-04-03/

I don't see this "emergency" meeting listed for Monday. Just look up "UNWeb TV" in Google to find the listings for the UN meetings. My rig doesn't want to stream the TV very well, so I usually switch to YouTube after discovering the time something is to be shown. You can put "YouTube UN" in the search box and usually get a selection of things to look at from the UN.

So, victim blaming, are we? I don't know if we will get to see this exchange, but the UN has been pretty transparent so far. I can't wait to hear what the rest of the world will say to Russia over this tragedy. And, usually they will invite Ukraine to sit in (so adopted), and that will be interesting, because I expect images of graves and bodies.

I want Russia to be charged in the Hague as criminal defendants for these crimes. No more dancing around the issue: let the world's reps tell them off in a no-doubt-about-it fashion. I know that protocols have to be observed; there is simply no way to get nations together unless you show respect and solicitude. But I wanna hear at least one of them say, "With all due respect, Sir, you are a lying weasel and full of crap."

Ukraine,

"With all due respect (which is NONE), Sir, you are a lying trainload of diarrheic whaleshit."

I won't insult the Mustelidae family with comparisons to Russian war criminals.

but I suspect that a blue whale or a humpback would excrete by tonnage....and I would expect it to be pretty nasty, um, shit, especially when one gets diarrhea...

The crimes are there for the whole world to see & they are being documented as war crimes, as we speak.

I’ve read that from inside Russia the word is that most people believe that this “exercise” will all be over in a matter of a couple of months. Store have all posted signs saying they will be temporarily closed & planning to re-open end of April. And, virtually no one is without a job- ie, they’ve given employees several months off with pay-
(I find that hard to believe!). There are only minor inconveniences- shortages of some goods and meds.

We need for the sanctions to hurt more!
And, they should not be lifted until the Russian people turn Putin over to The Hague.

and not only did they not do that, they have started a new offensive against Odesa. Why can't the Hague declare Putin a war criminal subject to arrest? I know that it would play hell to actually catch him, but a public announcement would be worth something. It would come from the UN, not the USA, and that would mean it comes from the world. China could not veto that, either.

The atrocity at Bucha is proof that the UN should deploy their forces to protect civilians. Take it to the GA where Russia and China can't veto the resolution, and then kick Russia out of Ukraine. And, Crimea. And, Georgia. And, Moldova.

And, we are going to sit on the sidelines and do nothing while Russia reduces Odesa to rubble and does G-d knows what to the civilian population. The UN should send warships and subs to interdict those Russian ships.

As expected, the Russians are now blaming the Bucha atrocities on the Ukrainians. It was like them accusing me of killing Sergei Magnitsky after they insisted for ten year he died of natural causes

in the '90's. I know China would veto the expulsion of Russia from the UN but maybe the UN needs to expel both and replace them with Ukraine and maybe a country like the Czech Republic or one of the other countries who suffered for decades behind the Iron Curtain. Maybe issue recognition again to Taiwan and put them on the Security Council too.

The General Assembly can vote on its' own to suspend countries from participation in the business of the UN without it being a suspension/expulsion under the normal rules for that action. They've done it before as in the case of South Africa. The Security Council vetoed suspension/expulsion under the formal rules but the General Assembly voted to suspend them from the work of the Assembly. That lasted for 20 years. So in other words they would technically still be in the club they just couldn't say or do anything regarding UN activities. I really don't see where Russia and China really bring anything positive to the UN and it really seems like they use it for manipulation and cover. China would be very angry about being shown up in this way. So be it. If they are so concerned about their precious image and pride then they should act in a manner consistent with a good image and actions to be proud of rather than enabling Russia to continue to slaughter civilians and knowingly commit war crimes.
