Governor DeSantis loves to boast that hes made Florida the freest state in America, yet today he will sign a heinous, hateful piece of legislation that silences teachers in their own classrooms and effectively harms millions of LGBTQ+ students, with nowhere else to turn for help, said Charlie Crist. Under this Governor, Florida is not free if youre a member of the LGBTQ+ community. But when we win this election in November, we will make Florida truly free again. In the Sunshine State, we proudly say gay,' and we support the LGBTQ+ community at every step of the way. Charlie Crist

Be gentle. I've become so demoralized in this state that Crist has become one of my favorites. I remember a time when I couldn't say his name without cussing. Crist has been championing more and more progressive causes every year.

(5,227 posts)about which candidate to support. Part of me hesitates to vote for a party switcher. He was Republican until he wasn't. He was a "confirmed bachelor" until he ran for governor last time, and then came up with a surprise bride during the campaign. Now he's divorced and championing gay issues. Not sure he knows who he is. But, Nicki Freid hasn't really put herself out there. Just a statement on what a shithead DieSantis is. She needs more impact and interaction with voters. We'll see which candidate will appeal to Democrats as the primary edges closer. I'll support whoever wins.

(349 posts)Not sure which direction I'll go when the time comes.
My relationship with Crist is a bit manic. We have been together a long time. I think I first began cursing his name around twenty five years ago.

(9,998 posts)I've seen Nothing to indicate that FL is going to turn on DeSatan. He'll win by 5-10% is my guess.
The fact his Covid response was so PATHETIC, and resulted in the needless deaths of countless lives. repub Lives. Yet his approval ratings are relatively similar to pre-pandemic, tells me all I need to know about the Morons in FL, and who they're going to vote for.

(349 posts)I'm highly confident that the next couple of elections cycles for us are going to be horrible. The gains Republicans have made in Miami/Dade, all based in fear, are here to stay for a bit. It's a shift Democrats can't quickly recover from.

(17,003 posts)He squeaked out a win and has no more support now than he had then. Picking a fight with Disney is a HUGE mistake as is signing the Dont Say Gay bill.

(9,998 posts)I hope that I'm wrong, but I feel like that way he's acting, he knows it's in the bag. The more horrible he gets, the more Floridians seem to like him.
I also believe the Disney feud is all show. If he was worried about them cutting off support to him and his campaign, he wouldn't be picking a fight. I'm sure he needs their support, or he really would be in trouble. I expect it will all go away long before the election.

(17,003 posts)as hes like to think he is. The panhandle, his safe place, is furious over the recent purchase by FPL of the electric company. Power bills have gone through the roof and he and his cronies are the ones who approves the purchase and the rate hikes.

(17,536 posts)I share your lack of faith. We have gone over to the dark side, and we got the government that we deserve. I also believe that he will be returned to the Governor's office where he will continue to serve until it is time to launch his campaign for the White House.

(42,311 posts)zoom meeting. He was personable, knowledgeable, and had a good grasp of the issues. I don't hold his Republican past against him, anymore than I hold Sen. Warren's against her.
I like Nikki Fried too, but I think Crist has a better chance of winning.
I talked with him a couple of months back. I always get distracted by his stunning tan, beautiful hair, and infectious smile.
He has grown on me a lot over the last ten years.
