Colorado Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, a supporter of Floridas Dont Say Gay law, has now proposed that queer and trans people should remain closeted until reaching a designated level of "maturity."
We require people to be 21 to purchase alcohol beverages, and 21 to purchase tobacco products, the Colorado congresswoman wrote in a tweet posted on April 1. Why is it so unreasonable to require people to reach a certain level of maturity before making life-altering decisions about their sexuality and identity?
This is just the latest in what has become a pattern of anti-LGBTQ+ comments made by Boebert. In February, she was outspoken in her opposition to the Equality Act because it would extend civil rights protections to LGBTQ+ individuals.
We all know that thats just the Democrats using a play on words.
Theres nothing about equality in that act. If anything, its supremacy of gays and lesbians and transvestites, Boebert said in an interview on Real Americas Voice.
One of the Democrats looking to face Boebert in November's election is a gay man who went viral with his campaign video calling out Boebert's extreme views. Alex Walker's video shows fecal matter falling from the skies and ends with him declaring, Colorado needs a bull, not a bullshitter.

(39,120 posts)I'll admit that I have qualms about providing hormone treatments to adolescents who are still discovering their gender identities. I have no idea if there are any transition surgeries given to minors. I'd have qualms about that if they were.
I also know that it's not my business and people should be able to pursue happiness and wave their freak flag high, as Hendrix sang.

(25,005 posts)Children who have reached the age where puberty starts are given blockers to delay the onset of puberty to give them more time to decide (puberty blockers are sometimes also given to non-Trans children in some circumstances), regular Hormone Replacement Therapy (if desired) typically isn't given until children are 16-17, transition related surgeries (Masectomies, Vaginoplasty, Breast Augmentation) typically never happens (nor is approved) prior to age 18. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

(39,120 posts)None of that was available to the lone Trans kid that I went to HS with in the early '80s. It was revolutionary enough that gay kids got to be out at my Arts HS.

(23,061 posts)I knew that I was straight when I was quite young.
Therefore, and I'm generalizing here, but I'm assuming that gay people may know that they are gay when they are quite young.
It's not a fucking "decision", Lauren.
It's not like you are deciding which college to go to, or deciding that you are going to smoke cigarettes.
It's not a decision...IT'S WHO YOU ARE, AND WHO YOU KNOW YOU ARE, you twit.
Granted, gay or straight, there may be some confusion in young people as they naturally determine their gender identity, or which gender they are attracted to, but it's not a "decision". It's a realization of your natural state of being. And I'm quite sure that young people can figure out who they naturally are, especially if no bullshit societal pressure is placed on them to be someone who they are not.
You can't fucking legislate people's brains, Lauren.
But in your case, I would argue that your brain should be legislated.

During Mrs. Boebert's junior year in high school, she made the life-altering decision about her sexuality to engage in intercourse without contraceptives. This life-altering decision caused her to drop out of school in her senior year.
