Hours after Ukrainian forces liberated the towns of Bucha and Irpin outside Kyiv, chef José Andres and the WCK (World Central Kitchen) team were able to reach residents who had been trapped for a month. Traveling with the mayor of Irpin, they were the first new faces many had seen since the siege began.
"We brought hundreds of hot meals and 6,000 kilos of food for families to cook. Amidst images of horrific atrocities by Russian soldiers on civilians, José shared some reflections of his experience."
"Some thoughts from the train this Sunday
Its difficult to convey the experience of going to Irpin & Bucha
Youve all seen the photosunbelievable to think in 21st century those horrors are happening. I promise you we
@WCKitchen
will not leave the Ukrainian people alone."
Fellow DUers, if you can help feed these these desperate people, even just a buck or two, you will actually be saving lies.
Thank you.

(13,924 posts)Most charities that are in good standing with CharityWatch spend 85-90% on the people. The other $$ is for administration etc.
Jose' Andres pays for the administration out of his own pocket... He's a mensch.
I also donate to Doctors without Borders... They are 85% with CharityWatch..

(28,082 posts)It was hard to decide where to send it, but I finally decided people can't do anything - even make decisions - if they're hungry. And Chef Andres was set up at the border nearly from the start.

(54,256 posts)I didn't know this.
We want to contribute to the food efforts in Ukraine, but my husband is concerned about being spammed relentlessly if we do. We contribute to various Democratic causes and campaigns, but the volume of emails is overwhelming - including from people and groups that weve never even heard of. Ironically, we get several emails a day from Trump (Youre one of our best supporters, etc.) and weve never given him a dime. I know that this is a trivial concern, but can we expect endless solicitations from food groups if we contribute?

(13,924 posts)If I don't want anymore solicitations from them I just unsubscribe/filter to trash or block.
His emails are more of just information on where they are in Ukraine and how many they are feeding..and asking for a donation..
