3. It could be a pleasant summer in the west, so yes, it could be measured in months or longer.

STUDY OF CLIMATIC CONDITIONS HAS BEEN OF IMPORTANCE IN EUROPE
By Professor OF Climatology. and Robert DE Courcy ward
April 23, 1917

...The present war has provided an unusual opportunity to study the influence of weather upon modern military operations. Each war zone has its own special climatic types, and present its own peculiar problems. On the western front, the chief difficulty has been the autumn and winter rains, not so much because these are unusually heavy, but because of their frequency. On the eastern front the winters are more severe than in the west. There has been more suffering on account of the cold, and because of snow storms. The importance of long spells of freezing weather, during which alone the marshes can be crossed, has been clearly seen.

eta: I'm sure many involved in the crisis would rather just go home, but it's just as likely that someone has a plan to fight forever.

4. We will fight the war to the last Ukrainian.

As long as there are Ukrainians that can shoulder a weapon, we will send weapons. When there are no Ukrainians left to shoulder weapons, we will return to "normal."

7. Absolutely. Send the Ukrainians any weapons they want and can possibly use.

When we run out of Ukrainians, Putin will have won, Russian gas will flow to Germany, the Ruble will be restored, and we will return to "normal."

11. Ukraine is not Afghanistan.

The USSR could not control Afghanistan because Afghanistan is not about Kabul. Afghanistan is about the mountains. An effective depopulation of Afghanistan was never possible. If the Ukrainian cities are depopulated - by bombing, murder, and the population fleeing - there will be no one left to fight.

The Russian goal is not a military victory in the traditional sense. The goal is ethnic cleansing - genocide.

12. I think the Russians might run out of ground troops to send in before Ukraine runs out of fighters.

Their attrition rate is insane. I have to wonder what the Russians have in terms of armor at this point. Russia's ability to make war has been hindered greatly; it apparently wasn't all that effective to begin with.

I am confident they can finish the job if we aren't shy about giving them the hardware.
