So what does constitutional carry actually mean, or not mean? The answer varies according to various states legislation on the topic. But in Georgia, in actual practice not much is likely to change largely because gun rights here have already been expanded so much.
Every place you cant carry a handgun today in Georgia will remain a place you cant carry one after constitutional carry is signed into law. So airports, schools, government buildings, and private businesses which post signs saying guns arent allowed inside will remain off-limits. People who cant legally carry firearms today in Georgia still wont be able to legally carry firearms.
So those with felony or drug convictions, those under 21 (18 for active duty military), and those whove undergone comprehensive treatment for substance abuse or mental health issues within the last five years still wont be able to carry after the new bill is signed into law.
Constitutional carry has no relevance to how one acquires a gun. Those purchases whether at a gun shop, gun show or online will still have to go through the standard federal background check which has been required since passage of the Brady Bill in the 1990s (By the way, purchasing a gun online isnt like buying something on Amazon. The firearm you order has to first be delivered to a Federal Firearms License holder, often a gun store, who is legally responsible for making sure the buyer has passed a background check before handing the firearm over to them.)
Georgia will become a 'green' unrestricted state. Amazing amount of change in gun laws concerning public carry over the last 37 years.

(35,321 posts)can legally own a gun can also carry a concealed weapon.
So that potentially puts millions more guns out there. Don't let anyone get you in a road rage situation most anyone will have a gun. It's like Dodge City, except Marshall Dillon could take your gun and tell you to get out of Dodge by sundown. It will sell a lot more guns too.

Allow anyone in the state to sue any gun seller or gun manufacturer for any gun used in the commission of any crime.

(24,399 posts)what does it mean, then? Just a fancy way of screaming RKBA while not really meaning much else special?

(34,165 posts)What does it mean? I think it is part of an interesting trend since the Sandy Hook Massacre where, at the level of states, some gun restrictions have been put in place and some expansions have been put in place.

(6,158 posts)No? Comon, who would be stupid enough to make it even easier than it already is to walk around with a loaded gun?
Oh! Republicans! I guess they think that those gun toting citizens are only going to kill Democrats.
Expect the crime and death rates related to handguns to go up even higher in those states.
God save us from Republicans!

(24,881 posts)Can I just walk into places with an ax or maybe a big ass sweet sword? Is that protected by the constitution?
A mace might be good too but nothing beats a shovel or ax handle.

(2,971 posts)without a concealed carry license. If the new law is consistent, I would presume that carry of any melee weapon will now be permitted.
