Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock (D) narrowly trails Republican Herschel Walker in the Peach States marquee Senate race, according to a new The Hill/Emerson College poll. Warnock, who won a special election in 2021 and is now running for a full term, is supported by 45 percent of registered voters in the poll released Wednesday, while Walker is backed by 49 percent of voters.
The Republicans lead is just outside the surveys margin of error of 3 percentage points, though 6 percent of voters remain undecided, according to the poll. Walker, a former football star, is currently the heavy favorite to win the GOP primary after earning the endorsement of former President Trump, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and other prominent Republicans.
Democrats are hopeful that Warnocks resume, including his service at Martin Luther King Jr.s old church, could help him repeat his win this year. Some Republicans have also voiced concerns that Democrats will go after Walker over his past business practices and the fact that he has been accused of abuse by his ex-wife.
Still, Warnock will be running in what is anticipated to be a very GOP-friendly atmosphere, an environment driven largely by Bidens sagging approval ratings. Bidens approval rating in Georgia is underwater, according to the new poll, with 42 percent of voters approving of the job hes doing and 49 percent disapproving.

(34,195 posts)Lets just be blunt. No one, and I mean not one person, would seriously believe that Herschel Walker, the former football star and current leading contender for the Republican Senate nomination in Georgia, was at the top of his class at the University of Georgia.
Yet Walker has claimed just that for years, saying multiple times that he graduated in the top 1 percent of his class. Walker never graduated from college. He left to play professional football. Furthermore, according to CNN: A profile of Walker from 1982 in The Christian-Science Monitor and an article in The New York Times said he maintained a B average at the school. Walker himself told The Chicago Tribune in 1985 he maintained a 3.0 before his grades dropped.
But wait, that wasnt the only problematic boast Walker made about his grades. Walker wrote: If Im proud of anything I did in my high school career (I mwas) Beta Club president and class valedictorian. CNNs KFile reviewed Walkers high school yearbooks and coverage of him in local newspapers at the time and could find no evidence to support the claim that he was a high school valedictorian.
He has also been accused by his ex-wife of making multiple threats against her life. In 2005 she secured an order of protection against him. As The Associated Press reported: When his book was released, she told ABC News that at one point during their marriage, her husband pointed a pistol at her head and said, Im going to blow your fing brains out. She filed for divorce in 2001, citing physically abusive and extremely threatening behavior.

(3,437 posts)Will the racism thing affect Walker? There may be a bunch of these loudmouths in Georgia who claim to support him, but in the privacy of the voting booth, how may of them will let racism trump (pun intended) their MAGA love? How many of them wouldnt vote for a black man under any circumstances?
Sadly, there are people like that. My sisters mother-in-law, who worked as a school secretary for 30 years, told us a story about someone she knew in the school system who used to be an avid Democrat and who even ran for office as a Democrat. Until Obama became the Dem nominee - then suddenly he went full on birther and is now a Trumper. Ugh.

(33,424 posts)Or else it is really sloppy journalism. It says CNN "could find no evidence to support the claim that he was a high school valedictorian." Ok, then who WAS the valedictorian? The yearbook would mention it. If it wasn't him then who was it? Also why not just ask the high school? I'm sure they keep information about who was valedictorian for each year. What did they say? Or were they even asked?
moose65
(3,437 posts)I just looked back at all my high school yearbooks and none of them say anything about the valedictorian.
Probably because final grades aren't known until right before graduation, while yearbooks come out several weeks before graduation. However, someone in Walker's graduating class who WAS the valedictorian can provide the evidence!

(33,424 posts)No evidence they bothered to do that. Also local papers always carry that kind of stuff -- especially back then.

He has personality disorder on top of what could be worsening CTE (He's starting to verbalize worse than he used to), he's a grifting dead-beat just like his bestie trump.
I think he's gonna win, with all the cheating/racism going on down there. GOD almighty, prove me wrong.
Scary thing also, is that people still want him as Senator over Warnock. A friend who lives in Georgia says that quite surprisingly 15 or more of her relatives/friends are voting for him JUST because he's an ex-jock, and they are ALL BLACK DEMS.

As Herschel Walker eyes Senate run, a turbulent past emerges.
A review of hundreds of pages of public records tied to Herschel Walkers business ventures and divorce sheds new light on a turbulent personal history that could dog his Senate bid.

(11,767 posts)Elections however, are not built on that anymore. They are built on narratives.
Walker is a football hero. Georgia, a football loving state, knows who Walker is. They believe the hype rather than the truth. The media continues to push the idea that the United States is in trouble, despite the job growth, the wage growth, and recovery from a deadly pandemic. They keep pushing that it will be a "horrible" year for Democrats, which helps to depress the vote.
Warnock is a good man who has already done good things in the Senate, but the narrative is currently against him. The narrative needs to change. I think that Warnock will pull it out. Another problem is that we are still fairly far away so right now people are squawking to make their money as pollsters and pundits. A lot can happen between now and November.

(11,767 posts)I grew up playing sports. Sports are great, but they do not infer any special authority on anyone. You can certainly be an athlete and be smart and a good leader. You can also be an elite athlete, be a HORRIBLE person and dumber than a bag of hammers.
Walker proves that second point about athletes.

His team is trying to get him to do at least ONE debate with Warnock but it's a NO thus far.
Hope Warnock shows up and debates alone. That might help him, but with WHO are going to be asking Rev. Warnock the questions? They going to batter him with questions about Hunter Biden's laptop? Gay marriage type questions only?
You saw what his thoughts were about evolution, right?
The presence of apes calls into question the concept of evolution.
Herschel Walker misconstrues evolution of humans, apes.
IF YOUR TIME IS SHORT
Humans and the apes known today both evolved from ancient apes, who are now extinct. This split occurred between 6-8 million years ago based on genetic and fossil evidence.
Over time, humans and apes have been evolving in their own ways to adapt in their respective environments.
Herschel Walker, the former Georgia football star vying to join the U.S. Senate, questioned evolution during a recent church appearance.
"At one time science said, man came from apes. Did it not?" Walker said at Sugar Hill Church in Northern Gwinnett County, outside of Atlanta, Ga., on March 13. "If that is true, why are there still apes? Think about it."
Walker, a former NFL player, is seeking the GOP nomination to challenge Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock in the November election.
Walkers skepticism misconstrued how evolution theory works, so we wanted to talk to experts who could break it down.
Humans and modern-day apes both evolved from ancient apes, who are now extinct. Anthropologists using genetic and fossil evidence pinpoint it between 6-8 million years ago. Humans and the apes seen today evolved differently over time.
Jessica Thompson, an assistant professor of anthropology at Yale University, said to think of evolution not as something linear, but rather as a series of splits.
"Just as how one person can have many children, and those children can have many children, none of those people will be exactly the same as the others, but they will all still be closely related. As the generations pass, they become less and less closely related in terms of shared genetic material. And also, they will start to look more and more different from one another," Thompson said.
For example, if a person had brown hair, some of their descendants would also likely have brown hair. But it's unlikely every one of their descendants would have brown hair; some may have blonde hair or red hair.
"You would not ask, If all these red-haired people descended from a brown-haired person, then how is it possible to still have brown-haired people around today?" Thompson said.

(6,991 posts)At how man AA women have somehow 'fallen' for the trans talk from the GQP.
I've been to MANY AA websites, and it's scary. They're not thinking about the bigger picture. They're being stupid and more than I'd have thought are falling for the trans agenda, and the GQP trans hate talk.
You'd be surprised at how man AA women supported Clearance Thomas's nomination to the Supreme Court back then (At least the ones I knew in California back in the day). I was shocked. These were college-educated women, nurses--many of whom told me "He'll change once he gets up there. Don't worry." Or, we need a 'black' face on the court.
ALL these years later, and those who I still speak to are embarrassed as all hell for making TOTAL jack asses of themselves, because most of them were yelling and screaming at me telling me I'm stupid for not wanting a 'black man' on the High Court. They weren't the ONLY jack asses, because Senate Dems helped to vote that treasonous, non-qualified, sexually harassing, threesome-loving, self-hating clown onto the High Court. He lied and said his own sister was a welfare queen. He was a damn liar then and more so NOW, because he knew what his treasonous, racist, evil wife was doing on Jan. 6th. WHY was he the ONLY dissenting vote who didn't want us to see anything associated with Jan. 6th's "festivities"? I truly hope that treasonous piece of filth leaves the Court and cites 'health issues.'
