(27,228 posts)The view expressed by Evgeny Popov on the Russian program 60 Minutes on Tuesday follows Biden's comments that Russian President Vladimir Putin "cannot remain in power," which prompted a semblance of damage control from the White House, which insisted he was not calling for regime change.
Biden's comments made in Warsaw on Saturday during a European visit, amid Russia's continued bombardment of Ukraine and claims Putin's forces were targeting civilians, have gained a lot of traction in Russia.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called it a "personal insult," and the White House's apparent damage control afterwards highlighted concerns that Biden's comment could be a diplomatic obstacle to ending the war.

(8,183 posts)This one is recent apparently, following Biden's remarks regarding the need for Putin to be removed, but this sentiment is not new in terms of lavishing praise and support for Trump by Putin's tv and political associates.

(15,639 posts)The Russians (like everybody else in the world) expected a Clinton victory. A trump presidency would of course be a real asset - but no one thought it a serious possibility. The 'aim' was for a weakened and less effective global opponent - which the Russian government has been trying to effect for decades.
