Most of us, including Uncle Joe, knew he was the guy to beat Trump and try to restore order in the country. I personally think it was his destiny; his time in history to be President. And he's done a good job over the 15 months in office and knows he's done a good job.
He may have thought he could "unite" the parties but knows by now it's not about parties or country or the constitution or Democracy. The Republicans, the MAGA bunch are going to be crossways the remainder of his tenure and are interested in nothing but regaining the majority.
But I wonder if he gives a shit about poll numbers or criticism from the assholes. I don't much think so.

(32,097 posts)His decisions have all been aimed at doing the right thing, rather than what's best for his poll numbers. The Afghanistan withdrawal is the most prominent example. He knew it would be chaotic, and that his numbers would suffer. Which is why his predecessors didn't go through with it. His demeanor kind of screams "I don't give a shit what the critics say," too.

(6,283 posts).... does care what the people think. I also think he is going to continue to do the things that need to be done. While his popularity has taken a downward turn, I really believe that when the fruits of his labors, even those that were met with a skeptical eye, will come to fruition in the end. Whether it works out that way or not has yet to be seen, but he will keep going forward with his eyes on the prize, caring about what America thinks about him, but not letting him be deterred from his goals. That's just my two cents.
