AxiosWhy it matters: With so many apps fighting to get even a small sliver of Gen Z's attention, BeReal has pulled ahead by getting users not to over-think what they post.
How it works: BeReal encourages users to send one post every day to their friends to show exactly what they're doing in real time.
In a push toward authenticity, the app snaps photos from the phone's front and back cameras simultaneously, showing where you are and what youre doing at the same time.
Because users have to send posts within two minutes of getting a randomly-timed notification, they don't have time to make fancy adjustments. Also, the app doesn't include any photo editing tools.

(58,785 posts)I told my bemused husband he'd have two minutes to throw on a robe, snap, and send. He declined. Lol to any idea of helping out Truth Social by combining this one's recipe for success with it.
My grandsons haven't mentioned it, but then they've now all entered their teens or preteens, that desert between wanting our attention for themselves and wanting grandparents for their unborn children, so don't mention much I don't coax out of them.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
