(9,019 posts)Since they don't really have a positive agenda, they double down on the negative...and it appears to work.
Doesn't say much for their base, does it?

(73 posts)They have gerrymandered to the extent that they will be re-elected disproportionally so they can continue their hate unabated.

(22,168 posts)Gerrymandering on both sides is cancelling out the Republican advantage in red leaning districts. That usually favors us Dems. Plus, American society, and thus the electorate, is not static. Seems the older I've gotten, change seems to accelerate. Legal gay marriage across America? Sexual orientation considered a protected class under Title VII? 30 or 40 years ago I'd have said those would never, ever happen in my lifetime. Yet, here we are. It's going to be a hell of a fight this year, but one the Dems can win in both houses of Congress.

(22,168 posts)They're not hurting anyone, least of all a bunch of reich wing nut jobs. If they think whatever is a "sin", then let their god sort it out. If he is who they say he is, he doesn't really need their help.

(171,509 posts)they don't stand FOR anything (well, aside from rich white men), so to unite their pathetic base they give them endless "enemies" to hate.....fucking disgusting so many repuke voters fall for such manipulation

(13,949 posts)The talking needs to be led by trans people, and they should be people who other trans people generally agree to speak for them. Volunteers to "fight for" trans people who are not so qualified should be given less attention and even actively opposed by Dems, imo. They can be allies, but they don't get to set strategy.
We want to avoid letting the Republicans choose fools from our side as their debate opponents by taking those misguided volunteers out of our debate team rotation ourselves. Let the most effective do the debating.

(1,962 posts)Warn people who think we can just "throw the QOP a bone" by giving in on trans issues or LGBTQ issues or "culture war wedge" issues. No. You can't. First, human rights for all, period. Playing games and pick and choose with human rights is the other side of the same coin of bigotry that the QOP loves so much. There is no debate. You stand for human rights, or you oppose them. Cutting out even one small segment means you oppose human rights.
Secondly, for anyone out there for one second thinking "Fine. We let the QOP win the fight over trans stuff so we can win the war..." Read this tweet by Oliver Willis. Read it again. Bookmark it. READ IT REPEATEDLY. Should the QOP succeed in destroying the trans community and presenting "the final solution" to "the gender question"? They'll go after someone else. They already are. They're going after reproductive rights almost as fiercely as trans issues. They're threatening Loving. They're threatening marriage equality. They will find a new target, and feel even more powerful and emboldened after "taking down those damned trans". It'll be people of color. It'll be LGBTQ's. It'll be women who don't do what they want.
Stand for everyone, or fall for anyone.
Here in 2022, "First they came for..." is becoming more relevant than some people think... yet again.
