(94,503 posts)I support the concept of government provided health care. But until a President decides to adopt it as an Administration policy, theres no value in pursuing it and certainly not through tweets to people who already agree. If Senator Sanders wants to push for this, he knows President Bidens phone number and can probably get his call answered.

which isnt in the habit of telling the President what his policies should be.
Sadly, the last time I had a meal with Biden was 2016 when I had other issues on my mind.

(2,945 posts)have a Medicare for All system the SECURE Act will detrimentally affect more people in their old age than it will help. While we get to wait to draw on our RMD into our more old age years under the SECURE Act, because of the delay of when we can start drawing an RMD, the amount drawn when we really reach old age will be insignificant in comparison to nursing home costs, etc.
The SECURE Act is promoted as being great bc it will allow people to invest in their IRAs longer, thus have more financial security for their old age. However, unless the amount of money that's received each year from your RMD is replaced at equal value each year, when you do reach "old age" your RMD will likely be depleted to the point where it won't begin to cover nursing home costs. We will have to rely on Medicare, SS and a pension, if any to pay nursing home costs. Only thing is, to qualify for Medicare to pay for nursing home care you have to liquidate all your assets before Medicare kicks in to pay. So much for leaving an inheritance to your children. The insurance companies are the ones who will inherit your wealth because the RMD (for most IRAs) will be depleted to such a level in our old age that it won't cover nursing home costs and we'll need Medicare to pay nursing home costs.
This is just a short narrative but I urge everyone to research it themselves. I don't know if the M4A that Bernie and Warren are supporting requires liquidation of assets before Medicare will pay for nursing home care, etc., or not, but this is an important issue to find out if you want to leave a legacy to your loved ones.

(28,075 posts)I really hope they're talking about something better than Medicare as it currently exists for those of us old enough to qualify. I know Bernie wants to cover eyes, hearing, and prescriptions, but I hope they also do away with Medicare B only covering 80% of outpatient costs and change it to 100%.
