Retirement is on the horizon.....YEAAA especially in today's world against teachers.

I have taught for 25 years. I would like to teach another 5 years.

I taught 2 years in a different state. 23 in my current state.

I teach a subject that is being terrorized. I will not run from the truth and I will not lie.

Just talked to my state's retirement department. I can retire anytime but the longer I teach the more benefit I get.

So, for now, I will continue to teach but they day my state tells me to white-wash half of our history will be the day I walk.

It actually feels good to know this!!!

And it is a difficult decision to stand for convictions when it has such an impact on your own living conditions.
Do what YOU believe to be the best - THAT is what will help you sleep at night.

Good luck!

That's an accomplishment! And knowing you have the luxury of deciding on your terms is really a good feeling.

3. I retired from Active Duty with the Army after 21 years of service

I spent 17 years in various Army Reserve and National Guard units. During my Guard Reserve years I spent 14 years teaching and went back on active duty. This coming fall and spring semesters will be 21 years of teaching high school Social Studies for. this will be my last year in a classroom. I think 42 years of public service is enough. Teaching has stopped being fun, and yes don't teach stuff that makes parents and some kids uncomfortable. Tough it out SNOWFLAKES. Uncomfortable history is still part of our history and I will teach it, and read banned books when that serpent is unleashed on our schools. I teach in a title one school and our kids need all the help they can get. Enjoy your retirement! I know I will, but I'll probably bug the crap out of my wife being home all day, getting in her way , messing up her routine etc...I am looking forward to retirement!

7. There's soon going to be a market for remote private schooling.

I know if I had school aged kids I would be signing them up.

The cycle is complete.

I’ve been wondering if that is the intent of this educational terrorism from the right is to drive people into their brainwashing camps. Without realizing real educators and engaged parents are fully capable of bringing out something of their own which the zealots will have exactly zero control over.

Congratulations for checking in with your state’s retirement department — that all by itself is a major step in your liberation.

10. They're killing the schools because they can't profit from them. This is all money, not ideology.

It's money. Period. They hate it that the public funds the schools without share holders or profits.

Defend your public schools!!!!
