Distraught over orders to investigate trans kids' families, Texas child welfare workers are resignin

TX AG Paxton issued a bogus legal opinion that held that gender affirming treatment given to trans youth is child abuse. Based on this bogus opinion, Greg has ordered state agencies to investigate parents who are providing gender affirming treatment to trans youth for child abuse. There is an injunction in place but many social workers do not want to be put in the position of inflicting torture on the parents of trans youth.

Greg is an asshole and this yet another stunt being used because Greg knows that he is in trouble

Morgan Davis, a transgender man, joined Texas’ child welfare agency as an investigator to be the advocate he never had growing up.

Less than a year later, one of the first cases under Gov. Greg Abbott’s order to investigate parents of transgender children landed on his desk.,,,,

“She said, ‘I know your intentions are good. But by walking in that door, as a representative for the state, you are saying in a sense that you condone this, that you agree with it,’” Davis said.

“It hit me like a thunderbolt. It’s true,” he said. “By me being there, for even a split second, a child could think they’ve done something wrong.”

Davis resigned shortly after. Since the directive went into effect, each member of his four-person unit has put in their notice as well.

Claims are pushed to the side.

No reason for that.

I mean, we all know they fucking hate the gay and lesbian and trans kids... But they don't even care about the straight, cis ones... Look at the overwhelming volume of child abuse cases going on to begin with. All of which, of course, got shoved to the back burner (or the backer burner, or the backest burner, or even off the stove) the second Abbott and Paxton started this shit and made terrorizing trans kids and their family top priority.

The only "children" they want to protect are themselves, and their tiny, immature, bigoted minds. Real kids who are at risk? They don't care. They never have. They never will. "Protect the children!" is just another empty slogan.

“I was instructed to go to the family’s home and show them love and respect and to tell that young person that they had done nothing wrong. Our purpose was to get out of their house as quickly as possible and to do as little harm as possible.

“Unfortunately, it became very quickly apparent that that was not going to be the case. I was not allowed to close the case, nor was my supervisor nor program director. It was heartbreaking. You want to be the voice that says everything is going to be OK. And honestly I couldn’t say that. I very quickly realized that evening that [the case] was going to be kept open. That became a sore point.”

“There's not a single person that I know of and is an investigator that is not looking for other employment, and if they are not, there's a reason to be there — they’re a single mother, single father, or dependent upon the health insurance that's provided — and they just haven’t found another job yet......

“The fact that a governor of Texas and an Attorney General, or the Department of Family and Protective Services, is going after vulnerable children knowing that we don't have abuse or neglect that reaches that criteria, knowing that we don't have a directive, knowing that the boots on the ground are saying please shut this down, knowing that they are strapped with caseloads, they're still doing it. And if they're willing to do that, what’s next?”
