my god. Abbott needs to be put out to pasture. I think it is horrible to treat refugees, asylum seekers like this.

Fox is reporting that the first bus of two or three dozen migrants from the Texas border sent by Greg Abbott has just arrived in DC to be dropped off near the Capitol.

(34,467 posts)It is illegal to bus them against their will, but not if they choose to go. So I hope someone investigated this.

(24,435 posts)Abbott had threatened to send them involuntarily, but who knows what he did. I too hope that somebody is investigating his political stunts.

(9,385 posts)The arrival made good on Texas Governor Greg Abbott's announcement last week that he had directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to bus migrants who had been released from federal custody out of Texas to D.C. or other locations, Fox News reported.

(15,950 posts)What's the objective now that they've sent these people there?
Do these migrants speak English?
Will there be violance committed against the bussed migrants?
Are they just going to be dropped off and left to their own devices?
I'm casting my ballot for BETO!

Also, if the supposed passengers were asylum seekers, I'm sure there's an asylum group that collected them in DC and is getting them situated, with places to stay and getting them ready for court dates.
The passengers were supposedly being processed while on the bus to DC, according to snippets in the tweet. Means all the appropriate federal agencies have notice of their arrival and any records of previous entries and affiliations the passengers have.
Not quite the "own the Libs" Abbott imagines it is.

(24,435 posts)that the immigration system may be working just like it's supposed to and Abbott is gaslighting us that something totally different is happening? Whoa. We should all feel so pwned by Abbott!

Plenty of prospective employers will be happy to have them once the asylum process is over.

(13,186 posts)We should thank him for sending the migrants to DC so their claims for asylum can be processed faster. Then they can return to whatever state they wish if asylum is granted.
By offering free rides to DC, Abbott is giving people incentive to cross the borders. He and other Republicans are responsible for any surge

(1,327 posts)I'm no fan of Abbott.
But people not from Texas should understand that the strain of migrants crossing the border and then being dropped off by border control in small Texas towns in the Rio Grande Valley where their mayors are left to deal with them (with zero funding) is problematic, too. Is having them take a bus ride to DC where they are dropped off somewhere else really any different?
This is why we are losing the Hispanic vote in the Rio Grande valley, if anyone cares. The towns throughout that area are being inundated with migrants and do not have support or resources. This is in the news here all the time. So Abbott coming in and saying hey, instead of border control dropping them off in your town and making them your problem to deal with with no resources (again), we're going to bus them to DC and let someone else carry some of the load for a while... that's going to be exactly what those voters want to hear.
