When you voted for Joe Biden, did you think he would be a two-term President?

Or did you vote for him because he was the best person to defeat Donald Trump?

And you did not believe the country could stand four more years of Trump and Putin?

Joe Biden was a candidate of necessity, in many ways.

Is it too early to talk about 4 more years?

Markus, with Der Spiegel.

Q Thanks, Mr. President. There’s a presidential election coming up in 2024. And as you know, there are wide- —

THE PRESIDENT: You’re kidding.

Q Yes. (Laughter.) It’s true. And there are widespread concerns in Europe that a figure like your predecessor, maybe even your predecessor himself, might get elected president again. So, are there any steps, anything you’re trying to do and NATO is trying to do here, these days, to prevent what you’re trying to do becoming undone two years from now? Thank you.

THE PRESIDENT: No, I — that’s not how I think of this. I’ve been dealing with foreign policy for longer than anybody that’s involved in this process right now. I have no concerns about the impact —

I made a commitment when I ran this time. I wasn’t going to run again, and I mean that sincerely. I had no intention of running for President again and — until I saw those folks coming out of the fields in Virginia carrying torches and carrying Nazi banners and literally singing the same vile rhyme that they used in Germany in the early ‘20s — or ‘30s, I should say. And then, when the gentleman you mentioned was asked what he thought — and a young woman was killed, a protester — and he asked — was asked what he thought, he said, “There are very good people on both sides.” And that’s when I decided I wasn’t going to be quiet any longer.

And when I ran this time — and I think the American press, whether they look at me favorably or unfavorably, acknowledge this — I made a determination: Nothing is worth — no election is worth my not doing exactly what I think is the right thing. Not a joke. I’m too long in the tooth to fool with this any longer.

And so, we’re a long way off in elections — a long way off. My focus of any election is on making sure that we retain the House and the United States Senate so that I have the room to continue to do the things that I’ve been able to do in terms of grow the economy and deal in a rational way with American foreign policy and lead the world — lead the — be the leader of the free world.

So — but it’s not a — it’s not an illogical question for someone to ask. I say to people at home: Imagine if we sat and watched the doors of the Bundestag broken down and police officers killed and hundreds of people storming in, or imagine if we saw that happening in the British Parliament or whatever. How would we feel?

And one of the things that I take some solace from is: I don’t think you’ll find any European leader who thinks that I am not up to the job. And I mean that sincerely. It’s not like, “Whoa…” It’s that — that —

The point is that when — the first G7 meeting I attended, like the one I did today, was in Great Britain. And I sat down, and I said, “America is back.” And one of the — one of my counterparts, colleagues, a head of state, said, “For how long?” “For how long?”

And so, I don’t blame — I don’t — I don’t criticize anybody for asking that question. But the next election, I’d be very fortunate if I had that same man running against me.

Thank you very, very much.

He has proven that my initial judgement was wrong. However, to answer the question, I figured him to be a one termer simply based on his age. He is now burdened with the problem that great Presidents face; he is honest and decent. It will almost assure that he will not be electable a second time. (think of Carter) The big problem today, is who can fill his shoes? If we fail to elect a Democrat to the President's office next time, it may well be the end of any pretention of being a Democracy.

I am very pleased with the way that Biden has handled his responsibilities, he will be remembered as one of the great ones. That puts me in a significant minority according to the polls.

It is easier to elect a blusterous clown to the office of President, than a good person. So yes, I think that Biden will be a one termer. Perhaps we will need to run a big busted, small minded, filthty mouthed, blonde and blue, bombshell, hater, next time to win over some of the Fascists in order to retain the office.

I believed the rumors that he might consider stepping down after one term and defer to Kamala Harris. However the first 1.2 years of Biden's term have been so great that I hope he decides to stay and run again.

If he decides he can't do another 4 years because of age and energy, I'm OK with Kamala taking over. If that happens, Pete Buttigieg should be her running mate. (Or perhaps Jamie Raskin.)

Anyone who does not support Kamala Harris for POTUS from the start is likely going to be skinned alive by certain sectors. The worst of her social media supporters (none are official of course, she would never stoop to their level) are some of the nastiest trolls on social media. Some of them make the majority (not all, the worst of the Bernie Bros are just as rotten) of the Sanders supporters look like cub scouts/brownies.

I will never forgive the worst (both so-called KHivers and the Bros/TYT attack dogs) for the viscous anti-LGBTQ attacks on Pete (for example, pumping up and pushing a deranged ex SB City Council member who attacked Pete and gays in the military by posting a pic of a bloke fucking a dog), plus the attacks on Warren (the so-called KHive founder calling a female PoC Warren campaign supporter a sell-out coon, etc), and attacks on Biden, before he surged and became the obvious winner.

If winning the general is the only thing that matters (and it is in my mind) then I am not convinced atm that VP Harris is the one can most likely pull that off if Biden chooses to not run, (I think he runs so hopefully this can all be avoided) so I am pretty damn sure I will be square in the target sights if I choose (my mind is still open) to support another candidate in the primaries.

Oh happy days possibly ahead.

Thu Apr 14, 2022, 02:31 PM

If primary, my first choice (Jay Inslee) dropped out early, and then it was between Biden, Klobuchar and Mayor Pete. For me, any Senator who had publicly urged Al Franken to resign was automatically disqualified, so that eliminated Sanders, Harris, Warren, Booker and Gillibrand. By the time the Texas primary took place, Biden was the only obvious choice left for me.

Interestingly enough, a Republican strategist asked me for my prediction on the upcoming Democratic ticket back in December , 2019. I made sure to specify—prediction or preference? She said, “prediction.” I said Biden-Klobuchar. She was shocked but noted it (why my opinion should have mattered to a seasoned political strategist, I don’t know—I’m no professional pundit).

If the general election was meant, I can only say, are you kiddin’ me?

I think if Biden’s health and stamina hold out, he can certainly handle a second term. I find that FAR preferable to yet one more embarrassing bloodbath of a Democratic primary. I suspect I’m not alone in that sentiment.

He has shocked me in so many ways I can't believe it! His response to COVID has been excellent (while facing headwinds from the NutJobs).

I did not expect him to pull away from the right, right, right of center Democrats of the Clinton era, but much to my joy he has moved us back to where I feel much more comfortable.

I did not expect him to be such a strong leader when the shit hit the fan in Ukraine. I'm so proud of him stepping up and acting like the leader of the free world.

I didn't expect him to stand strong on women's rights, including reproductive rights. I think we will see more from him on this front.

I'm thrilled with his environmental stance; defending and helping the poor and working poor; and defending public schools.

So I guess it was a vote for someone I trusted, rather than tfg. But I would be thrilled if Joe is fit and willing to do 4 more years.
