(349 posts)Set it up with rules that fomented somewhat honest debate without instigating. At the end of the debate you probably didnt even remember much about the moderator.
Who wants that?

(33,424 posts)They wanted more control. So they jointly set up the Debate Commission. The Commission was normally made up of ex-DNC and ex-RNC Chairs.

(33,424 posts)When the candidates are nominated by either party the candidate controls the political party -- not the other way around. If someone wants to do a debate in some format and both candidates agree then that is what will happen.

(33,424 posts)People said Trump would not debate and he did. They way the debates are presently structured they are not debates at all. They are simply dueling press conferences. I would like to see a Lincoln-Douglass format. Candidate A speaks for 1/2 hour. Candidate B speaks and asks questions of A for a 1/2 hour. Then A does the same and so on. No need for a panel or "moderator".
