Judge slams Trump as 'charlatan' after jury finds Jan. 6 rioter guilty on all counts He said Trump
doesn't care about democracy, "but only about power."
A federal judge in D.C. on Thursday delivered a scathing rebuke of former President Donald Trump and expressed dismay over the state of American politics just moments after a jury found a defendant charged in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot guilty on all charges.
"You know, I think our democracy is in trouble," Judge Reggie Walton said at the conclusion of the third jury trial for a defendant charged in the Capitol assault. "Because unfortunately, we have charlatans like our former president, who doesn't in my view really care about democracy, but only about power. And as a result of that, it's tearing this country apart."

"I have a concern that we have, unfortunately, American citizens who were so gullible that they were willing to accept what was being said without any proof that the allegations about the election had any merit whatsoever," Walton said. "People are just outraged at how they feel our system is not taking seriously what happened on that day because of their fear of the future of this country."

(6,849 posts)about people's confidence in democracy and stuff maybe we should take a moment to reflect. Consider the Republican's response if their presidential candidate had their victory stolen by an electoral college which has now nor ever before served any good purpose. I think we all know how that would have gone down. At the least, there would be a mad rush to repeal that part of "we the people" document which they keep claiming to love.

(43,281 posts)But not in the SCOTUS, or MAGA-Q-Public, or MSM. Fending off the revolt by waiting for sanity and DOJ is not a winning hand. We have to do something. Time is helping change in attitudes to occur, but too slowly. We only seem to think top-down for saviors ... we have to be proactive, as citizens ... get involved.

(25,895 posts)This is especially true of "Christians" and even more so of evangelicals. They are told that what their religion/pastor/priest says is true, they are not to question it -- even the obvious inconsistencies -- and simply apply that to other parts of their lives.
I have long been skeptical of everything, and it does me good.
