Younger days, 5 & 10 store counter filled with peeps and me begging parents to allowed to buy them.

Thank Gawd they (I think, stopped this)
Remember keeping it in a small box, playing with it until it got older than my Grandmother tying it to a string in the kitchen, later taking it outside to roam - THEN - one day it was gone. Chicken dinner, can't remember that.

(51,308 posts)Ive raised chickens for years, and I love them dearly.
People were in for a rude wake up call when they got them home and saw the mess they can make. Never mind how much warmth and attention they need.
Sickens me to even remember that time.

(30,613 posts)I didn't realize they used to sell actual live chicks for kids!
These are, of course, not for eating; you microwave them and watch them inflate hilariously.

(12,002 posts)On Good Friday the class was to have a drawing to determine which kid got to take home the chick to be his or her very own. The Tuesday before Easter our father died, so the class unanimously voted to give my sister the chick.
As we were sitting down to dinner that Friday, her teacher delivered the chick to the front door. It was all very touching until we had to devise some way to keep it warm. We never did figure out how to stop the incessant peeping 24 hours a day.
After about a week, we gave it to our cousin who had a farm.
