Russia says it has deported nearly one million Ukrainians to its territory

The Russian Ministry of Defense has said that more than 951,000 Ukrainians have been deported to Russia since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by Interfax, with reference to Mikhail Mizintsev, the head of Russia's National Defense Management Center.

According to him, "over the past 24 hours, without the participation of the Ukrainian authorities, 16,838 people were evacuated to Russia from dangerous regions of Ukraine, certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, including 1,402 children, in total, since the start of the war, there have already been 951,329 people, including 174,689 children."

Even if the Russians are kicked out of Ukraine, how do they get all these hostages out?

This should be OUR red line. A million prisoners should be a red line. Scrivener7 Apr 2022 #1
My guess is that they're trafficking the children and using the adults for slave labor. Crunchy Frog Apr 2022 #3
Wouldn't the proper term be 'kidnapped?' zuul Apr 2022 #2
These are Russian-speaking Ukrainians, presumably. maxsolomon Apr 2022 #4

Where are they? What is happening to them? This is a country that proudly uses rape as a weapon. These are soldiers who brag about torturing toddlers.

What are they doing to that million people?

I'm guessing that in Putin's new world order it will be acceptable for stronger countries to kidnap people from weaker countries to keep as slaves.

It would not be acceptable for Spain to kidnap them.

That's the people that Putin is so concerned about. The Yanukovitch voting areas.

So concerned that he's destroying their cities, their towns, their homes, killing or deporting them to the Far East?

Russia wants Ukraine without Ukrainians. These people will never been seen again.

There is no disincentive to Putin for engaging in genocide. In the best possible outcome, Ukraine will drive Russia from Ukraine. Ukraine cannot invade Russia to either free its citizens or bring war criminals to justice. Similarly, NATO will never invade Russia. The worst possible outcome is that Russia will kill enough Ukrainians that there is no one left to fight.

NATO could have stopped this when it was clear that genocide was always part of the plan. Maybe the lesson will have been learned when Putin invades Moldova.

I pretty much had that figured out within a couple of days of the invasion.

If they succeed it will be to our own eternal shame.
