If Elon Musk takes over Twitter will you delete your account? Or is it better to stay active so we know what Musk and his fellow oligarchs are up to?
I'm leaning towards deleting my account especially if he reinstates Trump.

(12,286 posts)Im gonna scale back and look for alternatives anyway. But if Trump is back or if Musk creates a megaphone for hate, Im deleting.

(23,314 posts)I dont tweet but I use my account to follow a few progressives and to be able to look at Twitter threads posted here on DU.
liberalmediaaddict
(766 posts)If I deactivate my account I won't be able to follow DU threads that feature tweets. Probably better to keep it for now.
But if he reinstates Cheeto Mussolini I'm done.
BumRushDaShow
(128,979 posts)but can still read embedded tweets here. You can also go to the tweet source's "web version" (which is what I do with the news and state/municipal twitter sites to read their info).
For example, DU's twitter account "web" version is here - https://twitter.com/demunderground
In some cases, depending on your browser, you may need to turn off some ad blockers and/or play around with the "private browsing" features to view an embedded tweet, but basically, unless you want to go further into a twitter "thread" in some cases, no account is needed.

(9,998 posts)Are you kidding? He's going to be back on within weeks of Musk officially taking over. There is literally ZERO chance that he remains banned, along with countless others who are banned, the majority of those will be allowed back as well.
ColinC
(8,292 posts)Musk took over in the name of not banning anybody for what they say. Trump is the prime example.
Mike Nelson
(9,955 posts)... probably not. However, I might end up going there less... I see him as a potential ally of Trumpsters... they need Twitter and Facebook. They have a big media (FOX), but they need big social media. If they win Congress, they will go after Facebook, next. Also, it probably goes without saying here, but when the POTUS does what Trump does on social media, it's NOT ANTI-FREE SPEECH to ban him. They have standards, and he doesn't follow any rules but his own. What they don't like is that there is way too much free speech on social media, and they need control. Now, if many progressives leave Twitter, we lose... taking yourself out of the game strengthens those who stay. I always tell friends to leave Facebook, Twitter, etc if it's unhealthy for you, but not because someone posted pro-Trump politics.

That's what I can't get past in my mind.
I now see Twitter as just another part of the Elon Musk empire.
Honestly Twitter hasn't been as fun to use since Eric Boehlert died. He was a big reason I logged on.
Mike Nelson
(9,955 posts)... even retweeting DU or Occupy Dem is feeding the site. I won't be retweeting anything, for the time being... Still, if everyone politically progressive leaves and Trumpsters get more active, the sheep will easily be led... maybe the site will die and stocks fall... we'll have to see what happens.

I think those of us who stay on are going to give him, Musk, and their cultists the fight of their lives in that particular forum. And if I get permabanned because of what I post, well, so much for Elon's embrace of the First Amendment.

(8,702 posts)By staying on Twitter you're supporting Musk. Musk will be profiting off of you. Musk is just like trump or perhaps more like putin.
Musk is a un-American fascist pos. I think he's a racist pos. Clearly he owns a racist car company that had to settle in the millions.
Musk has pushed anti-American Russian propaganda against President Biden and Prime Minister of Canada..
Interesting to see who is full of shit, when it comes to being for what you say you're for.
It's time to quit Twitter. Another message platform can be created.
