I love it when they say this isn't who I am when usually that is EXACTLY who they are.

(7,528 posts)The article raises an important question: option for what?
Twitter created and perfected the short-format messaging platform. It created the brand category it created and dominates.
Sure, there are dozens of other websites created and marketed as better-than-Twitter. But its impossible to replace the Twitter brand that exists in peoples minds.
And one of those brand things is Twitter bans nutjobs like Trump and his ilk who manipulate the platform for personal, nefarious purposes. If Musk wants to kill Twitter, let him make Twitter users associate with the same trash that infects Facebook. It may kill Twitter for the enlightened set, but they will find some other and more state-of-the-art way to associate.
But it will unlikely be a Twitter clone.

(3,013 posts)The biggest irritation for me on Twitter is all the bots. If he improves it in that regard that's good. If TDG is allowed back on, it will probably change the character of the place since it changed markedly for the better when he was banned. If he wants verification of everyone that we are indeed regular people and not Russian trolls, maybe that's ok.
If it gets run over by RWNJs I will leave. But I have this belief that what I tweet and retweet makes a small bit of difference and has a tiny possiblity of changing someone's mind.
