Just Stop!

Like everyone else, I have a LOT of complaints these days. A LOT of things are pissing me off - but one in particular is putting me over the edge.

I am sick to death of pundits, political analysts, MSM personalities, journalists, and other assorted and sundry spokes-mouths repeating the idea that the Democrats will lose the House and/or the Senate in the upcoming midterm elections.

"It's a given," they say, "because that's the way it's always been. The party that holds the WH always suffers losses in the midterms" - a declaration that invariably follows a litany of statements about how we are living in unprecedented times, where political business-as-usual is no longer "usual".

We have a former "pResident" under investigation for crimes against the US, lawmakers under investigation for trying to overthrow our government, people at the highest levels of the previous administration pleading the 5th - all unprecedented - and yet we are being encouraged to believe that the precedent of Democrats suffering massive losses in November is an inevitability we have to brace ourselves for, because history shows yadda, yadda, yadda.

It amazes me that anyone would cling to the notions of the past as being somehow applicable to today's political climate. The very idea that the old norms still prevail in the face of "the new norms" we are currently facing is as preposterous as saying that we, as voters, can change everything - except the inevitable.

In today's political climate, believing that anything is inevitable is to believe that votes don't count, because "inevitability" is stronger than the voice of the People.

I, for one, say FUCK THAT NOISE. Stop promoting the idea that all is already lost before the first midterm ballot is cast. STOP telling me that my voice will not be heard before I have a chance to raise it.

And STOP telling me that in the upside-down world of up-means-down politics, historical "precedents" still have meaning.

If you're promoting the idea that Democratic midterm losses are to be expected, you are also promoting the idea that they are inevitable. So stop pretending you aren't taking a side - when you obviously already have.

No, not really, Which is freaking so sad, but not entirely unexpected. Now, it will worry them plenty when the numbers indicate that the rethugs have taken back Congress, but of course by then it is far toon late. We have to take back Congress NOW, not when we finally notice how inattentive the regular voter is. We have to start using the reality of what is going on. Namely that one party is run by power-mad vultures who would sell their own mother as long as it keeps them in riches and the power that comes with it. That it is populated by animals and sycophants. I would bet you money that half of the rethug party would not make it through a lawful investigation into their political lives (or the rest of their existence for that matter). Yet, because they are high ranking party members, they are given a pass for just about anything. Why are we still bowing to the new royalty? Have they brainwashed us that thoroughly? I would say no, but then I look around...

It's a struggle ain't it?
I still think there are a lot of people (voters) out there - that despite just getting a nut off on 'ownin' the libs' and "Lets go Brandon" - are really not down with an anti-abortion agenda (once they figure out what it means) - or politicians palling around with white supremacists and Putin fan boys.

On the other hand - we kept (desperately) telling ourselves that America was 'better' than Donald Trump. And it turned out that way too many of us weren't.

If it's not criticizing Biden and giving no air time for his accomplishments it's doom and gloom for the mid-terms and Presidential race...while the authoritarian Repubs, deserving of criticism, remain unscathed - except on occasion of some salacious news out of a book or article --- which any one with common sense knew was true anyway long ago.

The only mantra needed to be repeated is the Democrats are fighting for the people and Democracy whiile the Repubs ignore and tear down our Democracy in worship of Authoritarianism.

Tue Apr 26, 2022, 10:01 AM
Apr 2022

Concerning the midterms, and of course the 2024 presidential election. I am not a heavily political person, but I do keep up with current events on a regular basis. Here's what I know. Despite President Biden and the current House and Senate's setbacks, and some questionable actions, I know for a fact that electing a Republican anything is detrimental to the United States and its populace. This is the best, and the worst outcome for the United States, and it doesn't take a god-damn rocket scientist to figure that out. That brings me to exactly who I believe will be greatly responsible for any losses suffered in the midterms or the general election. It will be those Democrats and Independents who's loyalties shift whichever way the political wind blows. Although not nearly to the extent of the right to believe in misinformation, outright lies, and conspiracy theories, to deny that these traits do not exist to some extent on the left is to deny the reality of the world we live in today. Do I have a solution? Not really, but I am a disabled retiree living on a fixed income in a trailer park complete with the goofy neighbors, screaming kids, and loud music, not that there's anything wrong with the last one, or any of them, but there is a time and a place that's right, and a time and a place for some peace and quiet. My job is to convince any family members, friends, and neighbors that electing Democrats is the solution to the gathering evil permeating our country. Convincing the rest of the country there is a real danger of the United States spiraling into an autocratic nightmare is the Democratic politicians job. I hope they tackle this aggressively because unless this political pendulum is finally halted, there can never really be any progress unless one party takes control and maintains it on a long-term basis. We need that to be the Democratic Party. The alternative will have the opposite effect, and any progress made by the left will be systematically dismantled and replaced with the promise of prosperity that will soon turn into a nightmare. The 2022 midterms, and the 2024 presidential election will be the inflection points in history that determine what course this country will be taking. The Democratic Party should adopt the Highlander motto. "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!"..... Political party that is. The Democratic party needs to aggressively attack any misinformation, talking points and conspiracy theories like an angry horde of locusts, leaving nothing but a desolate, empty broken field in its wake. Time to take the kid gloves off!

In today's political climate, believing that anything is inevitable is to believe that votes don't count, because "inevitability" is stronger than the voice of the People.

There's a quote that goes something like "There is no present or future; just history repeating itself."

I'm not hearing "pundits, political analysts, MSM personalities, journalists, and other assorted and sundry spokes-mouths repeating the idea that the Democrats will lose the House and/or the Senate", only that it's a reasonable expectation based on history, Biden's poll numbers and the fucking price of gasoline.

I agree with you that the current political climate is unique and could be a game changer. I also know too many voters vote their emotions rather than their conscience and too many voters have no clue or concerns about the current political climate or the threat to our democracy. All they know is what they're paying for fucking gasoline and bacon...

the negatives that so many people keep throwing around.

I am convinced that trump will end up in jail, that against so many people saying "nothing is going to happen to him"...yes, he and many others are going to jail. Mark Meadows I think is going to do the unthinkable when he finds out that he too is going to jail, and many others will pay as well.

France is a good thermometer that people are waking up and they would rather vote for the one they may not be very happy with than to have Putin puppets in power, so please, lets start writing the script that Democrats will have majority in the Senate, they will keep majority in Congress, trump and gang will go to jail, and we are going to get rid of many of the thugs that populate the republican party.

AND MOST IMPORTANT: LETS ALL GO OUT AND VOTE, and tell every Democrat you know to GO OUT AND VOTE, that is how we defeat the negativity, that is how we make the MSM shut up.

...republican candidates are trash, and more in the open with their anti-American rhetoric and their corporate fealty as they work to take away things from Americans instead of offering anything at all on the issues voters say they care about.

They had this long run with Trump where they could imagine their slash and burn politics had some broad popularity, but they lost the last presidential election by so many votes they can't claim the support of anyone but insurrectionists, racists, bigots, and the impoverished rabble they've convinced are poor and destitute because someone who doesn't look like them took their money.

They still have to put up candidates who can run the Dem gauntlet of accountability for the Trump years where almost every republican behaved as if they'd conquered America. There's still payback to be had for all of that criminality and those abuses of office.

Moreover, Americans will be challenged to defend their right to actually place a vote and get it counted in the face of republican efforts to throw out ballots and registrations. These midterms will be a defiance to all of the anti-democratic efforts of the republicans. They won't take our votes away from us without a fight this fall, that basic act of voting our most powerful defiance.

People who insist that things never change and that certain things "are a given" need to remember how much the world really has changed.

My grandmother was married off to a distant cousin when she was 16 years old. I married fairly young because I was raised to believe that finding a husband was the most important thing that I would ever do and that I couldn't really take care of myself.

Well, I divorced that guy after 14 years and I have survived in the world for the past 28 years. I'm not surviving with a lot of style, mind you, but I'm still here.

So, yeah, the world is a mess, but look how much things have changed just in my own family in two generations. I have a lot of confidence in the generations coming after me. Remember Emma Gonzalez and David Hogg? And then there was Naomi Wadler who also spoke at the March For Our Lives Rally.

Every single advance forward for the rights and dignity of all people has been hard won. And there have been claw backs on those gains every step of the way. But not one of those gains was earned through an attitude of defeatism.

Unlike many others, I'm not going to pretend to know what will happen with the mid-term elections or in 2024. I know what I hope will happen and I know what I fear. But no matter how hard my fear tugs on my hope, I'm still going to vote. That's the least that I can do and it will at least earn me the right to complain if things don't go my way.
