Putin gets a wild hair up his ass, decides since Ukraine was once part of the USSR, it should be taken back as part of Russia...at least that's his story. I don't know the history behind Ukraine becoming an independent state but it doesn't matter. It was an independent state and Putin had no legal grounds or justifications for invading the country.
But after implementing his plan to take over the country, he says the rest of the world had better not interfere with his 'military operation' or else there will be 'consequences'...maybe a nuclear retaliation. Then he says, the rest of the world can't assist the Ukraine military by supplying weaponry or whatever supplies to help Ukraine or there will be 'consequences'.
It's not about what's right or wrong or legal or humanitarian. It's just about Putin...whatever He decides he wants to do, then He should have unfettered privilege to do it.
Donald Trump took office Jan 2017 without a clue as to what Presidents are supposed to do. So he just started out doing what he campaigned to do; cancel as many Obama accomplishments as possible, drain the swamp and build a fucking wall on the southern border. But it didn't take him long to realize Presidents have a lot of power to do a lot of things, without a lot of interference. And when someone said "you can't do that" he said he was the President and should be able to do whatever he wants. And away he went...doing all kinds of shit that was bad for the country and bad for the rest of the world. But it made a minority of the people happy so it must have been good. And it made him, his family and some of his rich friends richer.
When election seasoned rolled around, he decided he didn't want to lose the Presidency, and suspected he would, so he started a propaganda program to undermine Biden and undermine confidence in the election process and eventually declared the only way he could lose would be if the election was rigged. When he lost, he couldn't prove the election was rigged so just worked out a plan B to bypass the popular vote, nullify the electoral vote and win by a one vote per state count.
That didn't work so now, plan C is to fill the state legislatures with 'Trump people' who will have authority to choose their own slate of electors to vote for their candidate...Trump, if he decides plan C will succeed.
Hitler invaded half of Europe (11 countries) and was finally stopped by Winston Churchill and the USA. There was no NATO back then to unite against a dictator. Putin has maintained control of Russia since 2000 by eliminating the competition and is going strong today.
Trump isn't a dictator at the moment...but he is sure as hell working to get there, by hook or crook, with a lot of people trying to help him. Why so many people can't seem to understand that is a mystery to me.

This is not meant to take away from your excellent OP here but with a determined
group as listed, how could we lose? Now it's time to do it again!

(2,262 posts)I wasn't attempting to depict an accurate account of history, but it was Churchill who said, "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender." And he is given credit by some as stopping Hitler.

Hitler was a psycho who's "ego was writing checks his military couldn't cash" (that's a variation of a Top Gun movie line).

If we get out of the present situation without a WW 3, Joe Biden will be remembered as the key player IMO simply because he united the NATO countries. Had Trump won a second term, we would likely not be in NATO and Putin would own Ukraine now. Putin has to be stopped and Trump has to be stopped. Stopping Putin will be easier than stopping Trump, unfortunately.
