Question: What has Disney actually DONE that DeSantis is so upset. I really

have tried to figure it out from reading various news articles.

I can see where Disney said their opinion - which differed from DeSantis. That is free speech, so again, my question is did they actually DO something. (I'm not being sarcastic.)

"SNIP......

The other new ideology at work is in the hands of Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who, as Beauchamp pointed out, is trying to recreate Orbánism in the U.S. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has eroded Hungary’s democracy since he took power for the second time, about a decade ago. Orbán has been open about his determination to overthrow the concept of western democracy, replacing it with what he has, on different occasions, called “illiberal democracy” or “Christian democracy.” He wants to replace the equality at the heart of democracy with religious nationalism.

To accomplish his vision, Orbán has taken control of Hungary’s media, ensuring that his party wins all elections; has manipulated election districts in his own favor; and has consolidated the economy into the hands of his cronies by threatening opponents with harassing investigations, regulations, and taxes unless they sell out. Beauchamp calls this system “soft fascism.”

DeSantis is following this model right down to the fact that observers believe that Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill was modeled on a similar Hungarian law. DeSantis’s attack on Disney mirrors Orbán’s use of regulatory laws to punish political opponents (although the new law was so hasty and flawed it threatens to do DeSantis more harm than good). DeSantis is not alone in his support for Orban’s tactics: Fox News Channel personality Tucker Carlson openly admires Orbán, and next month the Conservative Political Action Committee will hold its conference in Hungary, with Orbán as a keynote speaker.

DeSantis expects to stuff his pockets and get more power. I doubt he's even capable of caring about anything else.

Nothing there except greed for himself nad his power and money as you stated plusa hate for minorities, the poor and the working class and any woman not on her knees fellating a repug. I think the hate is a major driving feature for both him and his craven anti-people party.

They donated generously to DeSatan. While promoting an LGBT-friendly image, Disney was caught contributing to backers of the Don't Say Gay bill.

Right wing narrative: Disney "caved" to the woke mob and must be put in its place.

They want to own the libs and stick two Democratic counties with a whopping tax liability.

If anything, Disney played into his hands. It gave him an issue that he's been searching for. It looks like he's trying to "protect" children more than the iconic Disney.

...make political retribution illegal.

I know, I know: how would you enforce it? But shit, how fucking ridiculous is sticking the taxpayers with billions of dollars of debt out of pure pique?

I hope to hell Disney wins this case.

As long as I can remember, Republicans have been a destructive force. They target something or someone and defamation and protests follow. Just look at their targets:

-Budget for NASA's space center. (It gets privatized)
-Military bases (Hard to believe, but under the guise of fiscal conservatism, military bases were closed.)
-Florida Land management laws (Messy way they went about it. The full story hasn't been told.)

And what I think was an attempt to disrupt those who support Democratic candidates:

-Civil Servants
-Teachers
-Minorities and gays

Basically smack DeSatan AND state legislators of anyone who voted for this bill.

They could even start their own PAC and run commercials 24 7. They want a fight on speech, Disney should give it to them. Not like they own their own TV network, Oh yea right.

A hundred million for Disney is basically a rounding error. And they may have some spare cash since they are no longer paying for the local governance...

It's horrible. The number of people that can't handle a character of color, or a woman in a role that was traditionally male (specifically Jane Foster as Thor which is part of a comic run from 2014, but that doesn't matter), or, god forbid, an LGBTQ+ character.
