Putin's invasion of Ukraine is the greatest strategic blunder of the 21st century. Unfortunately, it replaces my nation for that dubious honor in its invasion of Iraq. We had Saddam in a box with the sanctions regime and no fly zones.

The Russians stumbled badly during the initial stages of the Nazi invasion in 1941, but by the time Stalingrad rolled around in 1942, the Russians were doing much better in training and equipping their soldiers.

In fact, they used a little ingenuity in manufacturing enough weapons for their huge numbers of fighting men. Armorers found a cache of thousands of obsolete Czarist-era long-barreled bolt-action rifles somewhere. They simply sawed the barrels in half and used them to make immense numbers of submachine guns for the front-line troops.
