Putin is preparing to enter hospital for cancer surgery?

I read that he was going to temporarily hand down power to some general when he goes to the hospital.

Is there more to this story?

Will he be well-enough to remain in charge or will he have to resign?

Is he preparing for the inevitable?

Is this his exit from Ukraine?

19. My first thought too

but then thought better of it. Not that I like Pootie, it's just I'd like to be a better person than that kind of thought.
Also, is power doesn't exist in a vacuum. What comes after him maybe be worse, if that is even possible.

The behavior of Russian soldiers is so heinous that it reflects an entire culture, not just a few bad apples. Maybe it is just a military culture but certainly the Russian government is not punishing generals who don't put a stop to it.

2. No reliable source has confirmed this came from the Daily Mail, which is not a reliable source

Until a reliable news outlet reports this I would be skeptical

Don't you think CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, etc. would be reporting this?

skeptical

Doesn't it just make sense that major news outlets would report this?

Nothing in the Washington Post or NY Times that I see

but believe what you want

Just read the first line from that source you just gave:

"The extraordinary claims appeared on popular Telegram channel General SVR, which says its source is a well-placed figure in the Kremlin, the report added"

That tells you right there they don't know if the story is reliable

3. I've read he's supposed to go in for cancer treatment.

Makes me wonder if that’s a cover for whatever other health issues he’s having. Seems like it would allow him to retire but I’m not getting my hopes up

5. Or fake his death?

Or maybe someone will make sure he's not faking it.

I can imagine that, if true, it has to be serious for him to do it at this time. Unless it's a ploy to disappear, or maybe it's a little of both.

9. I buy the Parkinson's diagnosis more than the cancer.

Saw some footage of him recently and he had a very prominent tremor and was unsteady on his feet. The schizophrenia component would explain his actions, too. I’m no doctor, but I would think abdominal cancer at any stage would be debilitating, unless the Russians have been using smoke and mirrors.

Whatever’s wrong with him…he is one sick man.

The disease or the treatment could make him mentally unfit. He could be sundowning, hallucinating, or have paranoia. His closest administrators must not care that he controls nukes.

(that's just me, YMMV....) I extend my thoughts and prayers to the cancer as it goes through this difficult time. Hoping for the best possible outcome for it in the days ahead.

17. The original story was that Putin was turning over Kremlin duties . . .
Mon May 2, 2022, 01:18 PM

To manage the day-to-day military operation in Ukraine. Now, the story to cover his absence is cancer surgery which according to the new report he's been putting off.

What story is true? Who knows but the man hasn't looked healthy for months and the rumors of his poor health have been circulating for over a year. The reports have included that he's been traveling with a thyroid cancer specialist, that he has Parkinson's disease and/or has bowel cancer and is in considerable pain. I would say for the latter speculation (if true) that delaying treatment is the absolutely the worst thing you could do.

My father-in-law's delay in seeking colon-cancer treatment cost him his life.
