"SNIP......
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) told Lisa Boothe he thinks Florida will turn solidly red if hes reelected.
Said DeSantis: My goal would be, if we win the election really big, people like you who analyze these things are going to say: The days of Florida being a swing state are over. Florida is a red state.'
......SNIP"

(96,882 posts)What has DeSantis done that turns off a majority of Florida voters?

(52,341 posts)Frankly, The other side of the Republican party has a better chance of knocking him out of contention, than the Florida Democrats. Sorry, but that's true. Our Democrats are still using abacus style thinking. I don't think there is any Democrat that bridges the trust of all Democrats, and it comes down to what locals want. Quick rich schemes, and people who will look the other way. Makes for a shitty community environment, which means nothing to people who rely on closed social networks.

(24,957 posts)but his attacks on Disney and leaving the surrounding area with a huge tax increase probably isn't going to sit well with a lot of people. Also, depending on how it functions, I doubt he'll make many friends with his new "Election Police".

And don't think the slimy pig-fucker didn't factor that into the equation.

Florida will be the Old West in no time flat.

(10,599 posts)FL & TX are Red States. The Democratic Party is better off spending their campaign money elsewhere. In states that are still viable.

(798 posts)change. I'm an Indian American that was born and raised in the US while my parents are from India. You will see what I'm getting at. Anyways my best friend is also an Indian American whose story is the same as mine. Went to highschool together and he now lives in Dallas, Texas. He's lived there for 11 years. He's told me straight up these Hispanics the democrats want to convert to their base are not reachable.
He made an interesting point when he told me in his words "Jspur these Hispanics they have brown skin just like you and me but a lot of them think differently than us. They actually believe they are white or want to desperately be white and that voting republican will get them there. They are also religious nutcases which is another reason why they identify with the republican party."
We need to stop thinking Hispanics are a monolithic base like African Americans where they are going to vote 80-90 percent democratic. Hispanics are more like the white voting base in America where you have majority whites in the Northeast and the West Coast voting for democrats and then the rest of the country's white base voting Republican.

(10,599 posts)One would think that after his handling of the Covid crisis, his #'s would be in the toilet. But just like in TX, they're not.
He expects to run as the favorite in '24, assuming TFG isn't in the race. He would have a hard time doing that, if he loses the race for Governor this November.
He will do ANYTHING to ensure that he wins handily in November. I don't think it will even be close, and if it is, you can be assured he's going to be the one coming out on top.
I HATE him so much, I'd LOVE to see him go down to defeat. I just don't see that happening. I wish I didn't agree with him, but he's right, and FL is a Red State. I truly believe that any funds the party puts towards the Governor or Senate races in FL, would be better spent in legitimate battleground states, like GA, AZ, PA, WI, etc.
DeSatan already knows he has it won. To him, now it's simply a matter of how much he'll win by. My guess is by a 5-10% margin when all is said and done.

(52,341 posts)We need Democrats who can break the spell that Republicans have over South Florida. Just might involve education. They fear a South American style socialism. Democrats have to explain to them why that can't happen here.

(436 posts)Its hard to overcome these blunders in English but in Spanish it makes it even harder. Anytime South Florid hears socialist they think Maduro, Ortega and even Castro.

(17,757 posts)I am in one of the blue voting areas that is being split up and diluted down. I just submitted all of the extra information that I needed to remain on the voter roles. I haven't missed a vote in 50 years, but suddenly they did not have enough information on me... A lot of people won't do it and will be surprised on voting day.
The dirty bastards in the Republican Party will find any way, legal or not, to cheat on the elections.

(17,757 posts)By gerrymandering the local districts you determine who you send to state government to make the state laws. including election laws. That is the point. My district is being split up because we have been sending a damn good Democrat to Tallahassee to represent us. The Republicans hate him so they are splitting his district with neighboring red districts. That is part of the process DeSantis speaks of when talks about making Florida solid red. The future of our National elections is going to depend strongly on how much mischief the states call pull.
jimfields33
(19,382 posts)That is a huge district. Why they did that in the first place is a mystery. They broke that up this time.

(82,849 posts)That will qualify as "winning big." Or if he wins by three suspicious votes, that will qualify as "winning big." No matter what the margin of victory is, a Republican is always "winning big," and has a mandate to do whatever the hell he wants, because it was the will of the people. Oh, during the campaign he never mentioned some odious policy he wants to enact now? Well, he won, so it's the will of the people and he has carte blanche for anything his wealthy backers want.

(798 posts)itself. Even if Florida became a red state there would be some other state that would eventually flip permanently blue. This stuff historically always happens.

(17,757 posts)Fair has left the Republican Party process.

(798 posts)the system changes. Right now, it is rigged for Republicans but over time forces will come to get it changed. For example, I bet before the 60's it didn't seem like it was believable for many blacks that they would ever get civil rights. A lot of bad things are happening right now, but history has also taught me that eventually these things get corrected. I just hope I'm alive when they do get corrected.
