Big: Senator Joe Manchin just indicated he would not blow up the filibuster to codify Roe, saying he believes the filibuster is a check on power that preserves abortion rights. Without Manchin, the chance of passing Roe into law is pretty much zero.

Sen. Krysten Sinema: Protections in the Senate safeguarding against the erosion of womens access to health care have been used half-a-dozen times in the past ten years, and are more important now than ever.

@AOC
We could protect Roe tomorrow, but Sinema refuses to act on the filibuster. Until that changes she can take a seat talking about womens access to health care.
Hold everyone contributing to this disaster accountable, GOP & Dem obstructionists included. She should be primaried.

(4,128 posts)No more of his "he votes with Biden" BS -- since they never make him vote when he would go against his nominal party.
Make him put his RWNJ stances on the record. I don't care if we burn any chance of him winning WV next time.
Make him and EVERY OTHER SENATOR put the vote on the record.
If he threatens to jump ship -- let him do it. It will only help us in NOvember to elect actual Democrats and not self aggrandizing, self-enriching scumbags who are beholden only to their own dirty coal business and the oligarchs who have bought them off.

The sly little sleight of hand half-secret bureaucratic procedure which is currently mislabeled the filibuster is nothing like the original filibuster, which at least required real guts and energy and risk and effort. They in fact have already blown up the real filibuster. It no longer exists. We should not let them get away with pretending that this procedure is anything like a real filibuster. If they could do away wiith the real filibuster, then we can do away with this fake filibuster.

(10,943 posts)... I think there is some nobility in being consistently in favor of this rule. However, when Republicans are back in charge, there will be only a consideration of what works best for Republicans. There will be no nobility... and rules will change quickly.
