An escaped inmate and a guard suspected of helping him had a "special relationship", say investigators.
The announcement from the Alabama sheriff's office said the discovery was confirmed by fellow inmates of missing prisoner Casey White, a murder suspect.
A manhunt is underway for the 38-year-old escapee and corrections officer Vicky White, 56 (no relation).
The pair vanished as she was transporting him to a bogus mental evaluation.
*Police have not revealed whether the relationship was romantic.

Friday - the day the pair went missing - was supposed to be her final day at work. She had recently sold her home and told colleagues she planned to spend more time at the beach.
Tuesday, the US Marshals Service said the two were last seen on Friday driving a copper-coloured Ford Edge with an Alabama registration plate.
The same bulletin gave two aliases for Ms White - April Davis and Renee Marie Maxwell. Authorities say Casey White should be considered "armed and extremely dangerous".
Officials say they may now have access to an AR-15 rifle and a shotgun.
On Monday, Sheriff Singleton described the 6ft 9in Casey White as "extremely dangerous" and advised law enforcement not to "take any chances" with him.
"He has nothing to lose," he said.

(15,325 posts)As history of escapes like this one go, I don't believe the success rate of completely disappearing & never being found is that high.

(4,787 posts)In late 2019, Casey White had commenced serving a 75 year sentence for a host of violent crimes that he committed in 2015. He was incarcerated in a prison in the northern end of Alabama.
In 2020, completely out of the blue, he contacted the Lauderdale County sheriff's office and confessed to the unsolved murder of a woman that had occurred in 2015 in Lauderdale County. (This crime was unrelated to the ones he was convicted of in 2019.)
When detectives interviewed him, they determined that he knew some facts about the murder that supposedly had never been released to the public. He was eventually indicted, and sometime later, was transferred to the Lauderdale County jail, so he would be present for various court hearings. He then changed his defense to an insanity claim.
Without that unsolicited confession - and to a capital crime, no less! - he would have been parked 100 miles away from the jail where Ms White was employed.

Poorly run at best.
