Whether son or daughter, that could prove a mistake.
Same for permitless open carry states.
Save your tuition money for the blue states. And let red state pols know about it.

(54,408 posts)Some in the EU are extremely low cost (or in some cases still tuition free) for non EU citizens.
Universität Wien (University of Vienna) is a superb uni, massive in size (over 90,000 students) in a truly extraordinarily high quality of living city, has a shedload of courses and programmes in English, and the non EU tuition rate is only 726.72 Euro plus the Students' Union fee of 20.70 Euro per semester (total sum of 747.42 Euro per semester)
That is only $786 per semester (and it only takes 3 years in most non US advanced nations (the 4th year is another scam that the US does) to earn a bachelors (and it is somewhat easy to do it in less time, say 2.5 or even 2 years, if you really buckle down)

(54,408 posts)by people living in the US what is a good school to look at in the EU, and that is the first one I almost always recommend (unless they stipulate that cost doesn't matter) now, as many of the ones before now charge non Europeans a fairly large amount, albeit less than most US private unis, and less than many out of state public rates. Germany is also a good option to explore.
Sweden was free for all the globe's citizens for decades, but in 2012/13 they started charging tuition fees for most non Europeans from most advanced nations, the US included.
There are of course, many scholarships available to Americans for tertiary schools here, continent-wide.

(21,615 posts)Thank you for the information! That is amazing!
Ive been to Vienna. It is a beautiful city.
US colleges and universities are unaffordable.
We are definitely going to look at this option for all or part of their college education.

(54,408 posts)just find the University of Vienna to be almost the perfect storm of massive quality, size, history, resources, number of English options, etc, plus Vienna is such an amazing place to live, always in the top 10 cities in the planet in most surveys for overall quality of life. I also love to live in different nations simply for the experience and perspective broadening, which is why I went to uni in Los Angeles for my MBA, and took away semesters in France and Hong Kong (I will admit that having free places to stay in 4 of the 5 counties (all but Sweden, and of course we live here now, so not an issue anyway) I have went to uni in made a difference too, lol, although one (HK) has now been sold, due to the Chinese crackdowns, so more HK option in terms of cheap cost for us
, although the crackdowns also have ruled that out as well, hard pass on tyranny.)

(14,782 posts)A divided nation will not be able to unite adequately to rebel against the autocratic/plutocratic rule we have now.
As it stands now, we'll just remain in a low-grade civil war forever while the corporations and ultra-rich continue picking our pockets and buying elections.
GOTV is our only relief........

(40,365 posts)I could offer an opinion but that's about it and that's what happened in my case.
Shocked at the implication we would restrict our adult childrens decision. I would share my opinion and that would be the end of it. Universe forbid my child thought for xerself and even became a republican.

(10,104 posts)Its tough. He moved down there pre-TFG. They have very good jobs and arent going anywhere. Thankfully they live in a pretty blue area (Palm Beach co.) and have friends who think like them. They will be raising their son down there and plan to be extra-vigilant about his education (so he actually gets one).

(113,971 posts)I think major universities in Texas, FL, AL, and other regressive RW states are going to get hit hard... There is some evidence that they already ARE. SEC football may become a draw only for those students with fewer options.

(5,929 posts)The biggest factor will be where my kids want to go. Not my place to dictate this.
I will however encourage them to pick a school that is affordable and large/diverse. I'll mention the political and legal landscape of the state to help their choice
