it's because they don't want to get Cawthorned.
He's not just a sniveling jackass, he's now "an example".
There is dirt on every one of them. Embarrassing dirt. Criminal dirt. Embarrassing criminal dirt. Putin has it, no doubt MAGAt leaders have it. Barr got custody of a lot when the DoJ raided Epstein's computers.
Cawthorn is how they do it. Increasingly more embarrassing reveals, until the target gets the message and goes away. Or is jailed.

something in my mind keeps telling me that his vulnerability with the upcoming 14th amendment case may also be important
What happens if he is found ineligible to hold federal office ?
Will others then be more likely to be found ineligible too ?
The dirt on him is most likely coming from the right as pointed out above
How much fear of further repercussions to others may be in play ?
🤔

(25,595 posts)He's not breaking any laws.
Someone leaked a goofy tape of him and another guy. He's nude, humping the guy and making goofy sounds, but it looks like they're goofing around. Obviously they may have actually done real stuff prior to this tape. I don't think conservative hetero guys get naked just to create a stupid cosplay tape. He hasn't done anything illegal.

(2,395 posts)Why it matters: Upton announced his retirement on April 5 after more than 30 years in Congress.
Upton was one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump for inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Driving the news: Upton said on NBC's "Meet the Press" that he received death threats for voting in favor of the infrastructure bill, which he noted was at one point a Republican bill.
"It puts you at risk, particularly when they threaten not only you ... but when they threaten your spouse or your kids or whatever, that's what really makes it frightening," Upton said.
They'll drive good people from running, good people from teaching, good people from speaking up. It's all about instilling fear.

Retribution, like in Putin's Russia, for anyone who steps out of line.

A quote from the movie Road to Perdition. Seemed apt.
