roberts is an ineffectual cipher who will go down as the Chief Justice who presided over the complete politicization of the court. His lack of courage and honor deserve no less. It is mcconnell who did this to him.

(11,122 posts)He wouldn't rock boats. He wouldn't make the conservative judicial establishment mad. When he saw what his legacy on the court was going to be, he had no sway over the radical right members. They just laugh at him. Woefully inadequate for the job.

(11,122 posts)He voted with the liberals on the Pennsylvania mail in ballot issue and most critically supported the liberal side of the court on the Affordable Care Act issue under recent review.
He is aware of his impending, damning legacy and would like a more balance court. He lacks the leadership and skill to make that happen. He is awash with lying religious zealots who were placed there by turtle mcconnell.
Most importantly, we need to tie the current hatred of the court's actions to mcconnell and the republicans who created this court. We need voters to blame them. Blaming the man who cannot be removed or have any affect on the court would be less beneficial.
Channel the distrust and disgust at the republicans up for election.

It's not about your anger (or mine). It's about votes in November.

(13,582 posts)He needs to go down in history as the Chief Justice of the Court that destroyed our democracy and for the first time in history - reversed a previous Supreme Courts decisions. There is nothing Supreme about this court from here on out - its just another right wing political weapon.

(11,122 posts)He did not lead the court. He did not lead the conservative attack on our rights. He was aware of how bad things were getting and lacked the leadership skills to fix. So he just went along. He is the Chief Justice; he is not the court's leader.
He fully deserves the reputation his name will carry in history.
But he did not create this court. mcconnel did. He stole one justice from Obama, and he jammed another with barrett.
Hating the inept roberts will not help. Knowing that the person responsible for creating the court could. roberts is not up for election. His "power" is not subject to vote. mcconnell is. I would rather put the name and the blame on the one who can be removed and have his power stripped.

(11,122 posts)With elections coming, it is impotent posturing to gripe about the person that you cannot affect with your vote. roberts is Chief Justice for life.
mcconnel created this mess and can be affected by directing people's ire at him and his party. With the coming election, mcconnel is already ducking any responsibility for the court. He knows that if he is saddled with the blame for what they are doing, republicans will suffer votes.
That is the goal of calling public attention to mcconnel's hand in this. He want's to avoid that. We shouldn't let him.

(11,122 posts)Nothing we do will affect the magites. They will never vote for a Democrat. Ever. Not trump nor mcconnell could make them vote for a Democrat.
We aren't after their votes. It's the idiots who keep saying they are undecided. (How can you look at trump and Biden and be undecided?) 70% of Americans favor RowVWade. They didn't have it on their mind that it would go away. So that let them vote their frightened, uninformed, amoral little hearts. Right now they are pissed at the Supreme Court. They are focused on the "Roberts Court". I think calling it the mcconnell court will inform them who is really responsible for this travesty. (Yes, they are too dumb to know this on their own. I mean, remember that they are the undecideds.)
If we are to capitalize on the national anger for the election (and get women's rights codified) we need to stop yelling about roberts. He can be gotten rid of. We can put the anger of the moment on the ones that can be replaced and kept from more power.
