Federal debt to be proportioned to the new entities by electoral college count.

3. Would not be surprised. They are an invasive force taking down the US democracy while

cloaking themselves as the GOP. The republican party is gone.

4. It wouldn't matter

because that is a state issue and requires a 34 state majority.
There's absolutely no chance in hell that red states get to that number of 34 especially now. If anything, it's blue states who will have that majority.

7. And even if blue states did, it would be beyond inadvisable to call one

The only people who have been planning for one are right-wing and libertarian wingnuts. Especially wealthy ones, like the Koch brothers, who have put resources into it. I would fully expect them to take control of any such convention.

13. Oh I think it would be advisable for us to call one

This may make some feel uncomfortable & awkward here but the truth is the truth.

The Constitution is an outdated document written by white landowning men who owned people as property and are responsible for the mass genocide of First Nations people, my ancestors. This country's Constitution is incredibly out of date and despite trying to update it with amendments, nothing ever happens. We're ruled by a document that was written 100s of years ago & applying those laws to today is a study in stupid. It's a racist piece of paper that has no place in society today. None. And that's being reflected right now all across this country to the extreme. And that extremism is exactly why we don't have healthcare in this country, why gay marriage happened from a civil case, and why women are facing the reality of their civil rights being rolled back to 1890.

I firmly believe that if Democrats ever get to the 34 state threshold that they should immediately seize the opportunity and and have a Constitutional Convention. We need laws which protect the most vulnerable instead of wealthy white men who exploits their labor that they built their fortune on. We need to ensure that education, healthcare, housing, & utilities are all human rights as soon as humanly possible. We need to ensure that the civil rights of women and POC are protected at all costs.

I could write a novel on this.

15. Ok. Go raise about a billion dollars and work up a draft and a plan to...

...get it implemented while sidelining people who have other ideas.

That's what the Right has done, spread out over time since the 70s. Until there's a counter for that, it's inadvisable.

18. Why should I raise a billion dollars when

all I have to do is take the money this country uses for endless war and simply redirect the funds? A billion dollars isn't much, pennies, in the eyes of the military industrial complex.

Or we could just seize Elon Musk's wealth and redistribute it. I'm all for that too

34. Because they have built an infrastructure. They have a game plan for how they'd set the agenda...

...drafts of their favored points and strategies for undermining competing points, and the PR infrastructure to make them look like the reasonable people.

Ad hoc very rarely beats prepared, organized, and ready.

“The constitution is an outdated document.” It’d be interesting to at least do a nationwide poll. Results would be interesting.

33. I agree that the Constitution needs to be updated

but it would better and safer to use the amendment process. There are really no rules for a Convention and things could go off the rails pretty quickly with the MAGATS. We would need to have a supermajority in Congress to pass amendments but at least it would be a more controllable process.

of money though. But they repubs are quite a few state legislative majorities away form having enough to convene a Constitutional convention.

The majority of states are under R control but I agree it would be difficult to reach 34.

Clearest counter examples, VT, MA, MD. Each as a Democratic legislature with a moderate Republican governor.

5. Then be prepared to split the union, end the republic

I am all for an independent reboot and new constitution...one that fixes many original errors.

No morevelectoral college. Senate apportioned by population. A line one ban on slavery. Start with remo al of the 3/5ths abomination. Codify a new Supreme Court. Codify Roe,, Loving, and Oberkfell. Introduce term limits of 12 years sat every branch of government. Outlaw the draft.

Start drawing up maps now. A USA and the Confederacy. Let's be ready to demand the nukes though....those crazy wingnuts would definitely use them.

6. That can't be done.

It requires 2/3rds of both Houses of Congress. Neither party is going to get that many seats, now or in the forseeable future. The only other way for a convention is 2/3rds of the states applying for it, which is 34, but that has nothing to do with control of Congress and the Presidentcy.

12. Raised in a religious cult who has been planning this for 45 years.

They don't want ANY Constitution, SCOTUS or Congress. They want a full on Theocracy, a country governed exclusively by their interpretation of the bible. No one but a white christian male will be able to hold land, own a business or vote.
They have NO intention of splitting the country, they want it all.
They have been acquiring weapons (not just guns) training and organizing for 45 years.
Remember what men have done in the name of god over the centuries and plan accordingly.

Forget about 2/3 of the House and Senate.

There is nowhere near enough trust between the two sides for anyone to think opening that hen house would be a good idea.

27. "Considering" would have to mean something likely or tangible

And if anyone thinks states like Illinois, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont are just dying to let the yahoos in, I don't know what to say.

What is the definition of "considering" here? Because if it's, "random legislator introduces something" then I think we can rest easy.

We literally couldn't pass one amendment if we tried right now. Somehow we're going to upend the entire Constitution?

Fears should be grounded in the concrete.
