What I got today - for Mother's Day

A long time ago I adopted a then 16 year old girl and took her out of an orphanage.
We treasure each other, and she brought me this to celebrate the day.

12. Thank you - and a bit of a back story

I was getting divorced at the time, I was 33, and went to that orphanage on Sunday mornings to teach her to read. By the time we had finished "The Old man and the Sea" she was pretty fluent, and I recognized that above all she needed a mother. She was a chronic runaway. Nevertheless my only question to myself was: "What could happen that I can't handle."
I had no answer to that, and the rest is a long, happy, loving relationship that brought me a wonderful grandchild to boot.

I'm answering this to you, Tavernier, because I love the "Keys" and come through that town on my way to Marathon as often as possible.
