The OP thinks God's helping Romney out because people in the storm's path, being without power, will be forced to listen to conservative talk radio. Seriously...
Yes, radio. Many homes still have some battery-powered radios, some attached to emergency flashlights, with which they will listen attentively since the batteries on their laptops and cell phones won't function very long without recharging.
Some undecideds and even a few frustrated liberals will sit through shows like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham and possibly hear, for the first time, about stories the mainstream media has ignored or pooh-poohed and could inspire a few of them to not vote for four more years of Obama. Even if they are just miffed enough to not vote at all, that's probably a win for Romney.
It's like they don't know us at all, man! The responses are golden; A perfect little selection of the ugly on the other side of the aisle.
We have the bigot-
"What? No power? No TV? No Oprah? No View? And just what am I supposed to do for the next few days? Can't even charge up my Obamaphone! An' the 7-11 ain't accepting EBT cards. The hell? Obama...Obama sucks!

And the oblivious-
No, I think it helps Obobo. Look for his encouraging words everyday. I expect to see him passing out relief supplies too.
(Why would anyone expect less of a president?)

(8,601 posts)Even less surprisingly, many of them seem to find the whole thing quite amusing.
Of course, the thread I referred to where they fantasized about DU'ers dying in the storm appears to be wiped. I knew I should have screen captured that shit for later reference.
Oh, and best of all, they're slow to wake up to the fact that we can now discuss them and their hokey-assed websites more openly here.
I detect great potential for fun just ahead!

I think we've been given some insight into how Freepers are created--because there are some people who are desperate to drown out the sound of their own thoughts.

(5,624 posts)most Romney voters among my acquaintances really know how extreme the GOP agenda is and they just vote for the repigs because they're "pro life" and maybe a little bit unconsciously racist. If they were to hear more than 5 minutes of the hateful, racist bullshit spouted by Limpballs or Micheal Savage it would probably turn them against the repigs... but they tune that out. Cognitive dissonance ya know.

(9,117 posts)To be a bit spiteful myself, I think this hurricane is going to prove to be a political education for those right-wing and Republican voters living in the mountainous and rural areas still being hit by Hurricane Sandy. As many of those Republican-voting folks are finding out, how well is "big government" disaster relief working out for them? And how well would they fare if such relief WASN'T there?
And I'm sure that in the backs of at least some of their minds, I'm sure that at least a few are wondering just how appropriate and wise Mitt's "Turn disaster relief back over to the states and the private sector" rhetoric would be if such ideas were implemented in the real world.
This is a real super-storm with real rain, real snow, and real flooding. Just how well does it match right-wing polemics and theorizing? I hope that the "rugged individualists" and wanna-be privateers are soiling their underwear at the thought of having to face natural disasters with the sort of "relief" their "anti-big gummint" pet politicians would give them.

(16,167 posts)along with the simple fact that NJ, Del, NY, PA, WVA and the rest certainly don't have a little piggy bank where they've put aside pennies to pay for such a strong storm and its related damage.
How many rugged individualists do you know that live on the 45th floor of a New York high rise?

(9,117 posts)With the exceptions of a slice of financial traders, lawyers, and real-estate types in the big cities, I suspect that the folks currently finding out if their are congruent with reality are people out in the rugged, mountainous parts of western New York state and Pennsylvania's Appalachian and Allegheny mountains. Those folks tend to vote Republican, tend to be right-wing, and put guys like Tom Corbett in the Pennsylvania governor's mansion and derivatives-trading Club-for-Growther Pat Toomey in the US Senate.

Freepers are so behind the times. If you can listen to your local news giving updates on power outages, flooding, safety issues, etc. you are not going to turn into Rush. People want to get back home or if they are home want info about the storm.

(9,117 posts)And if the right wing-dingies run true to pattern, they'll be blackguarding the dazed and battered survivors of Sandy's rain, flooding, snow, and ruin as un-American, lazy, welfare-mooching degenerates. If the talk show hosts' bad karma comes around, the dazed and battered survivors will hear themselves being slandered on the air by the talk-show hosts they listened to and (formerly) trusted.

(31,706 posts)The city has two ALL NEWS radio stations...no rushbo or venom...just information and traffic on the 8s. The last thing someone sitting in the dark and wanting to hear if the world is still spinning are worthless blowhards. In fact WABC dropped their usual hate-filled format for storm coverage.
