on SCOTUS in Washington, and around country. We can't let the liar justices just push this through without a fight.
Guess we better put out the Bat signal for the original organinzers...wasn't it the Me_too and BLM women?
You guessed it, want something done in Dem circles...better call Black women.

(12,286 posts)We need organization in every state to put abortion access and personal bodily autonomy on the ballot.
Every state.

(36,594 posts)I hope we can show the working people in this country who is working on the issues they face in life while republicans are busy try to make a historic expansion to the government by controlling women and their lives. And lying to people everyday.

(30,469 posts)What did surprise me was learnong 13 percent of Black men and something like 38 percent of Hispanic men voted for Trump.
brush
(61,033 posts)voted Democratic, second highest demographic vote in the country to the 95% of Black women who voted for Biden.
I repeat, the second highest demograhic group. Now tell me the percentage of white men, white women etc. who voted for Biden and we'll have a clearer picture. Let's not get misled by negative spin.
whathehell
(30,469 posts)though the propiortions, of course, would not be the same.
brush
(61,033 posts)For instance, I think it was 66 or 66% of white men voted for trump. That means when you're out and about two out of every three white men you run into is a trumper.
Not a comforting thought.
whathehell
(30,469 posts)same proportional difference as in 2020. Add to that the fact that both black and white women vote in larger numbers than men.
Demsrule86
(71,542 posts)And without those votes, Biden would have lost. Consider That Black men voted for Trump in higher numbers too. It fricking doesn't matter...we need all votes and this isn't helpful...causes division.

(30,469 posts)NOT Trump, and I, too, am sick of that BS meme.

It's activism 101. You have to know this.
What are your suggestions?
leftstreet
(40,681 posts)I know the point you're making, and bringing attention to issues is great no matter what.
But those thousands strong multi-city marches for civil rights were more frightening to the ruling class for their potential. Today's ruling class isn't frightened by the spectacle of people in pink hats marching around.
Today you have to stop something to get attention. Stop traffic, stop commerce, etc.
whathehell
(30,469 posts)If so, you boys are always free to join us, pink hat or not.

I mean all protests today that are "marches" are basically parades to the ruling class

(10,969 posts)That world does not exist anymore.
Tactics must evolve. Wearing a silly hat isn't a tactic. It's wearing a silly hat. The online mockery alone could be seen from space.
Tangible actions are what the world understands now. In a culture based on memes, everything is risible and disposable. It's attention for ten minutes, because ten minutes is all we have to give.
You have to make the people in power uncomfortable. What about hanging out in the street for a few hours makes them uncomfortable? What damage have you done to them? What consequences have you generated?
In this day and age, the only thing the people in power understand is economic consequences. It isn't just People of Conscience that need reaching. It's the corporations. CEOs. The people paying for the government.
Make their lives miserable.
DeSantis gets this. When will our side?

(2,499 posts)At the risk of sounding like a puritanical right winger, I absolutely despise the p word. Its right up there with the c word as a term used by misogynistic men to denigrate women. Im all in favor of abortion right marches, just not with those ridiculous hats.

(30,469 posts)I believe.
I realize that, and it was a mistake. Imagine if men held a pro male march and came out with hats with fake penises flopping off the brim. Irrespective of the symbolism, its not a good look.
brush
(61,033 posts)It's not worth arguing over. The point was to get people out protesting the SCOTUS brief link's implications and to spur action against it, not the name of those hats.
whathehell

(71,542 posts)Put that energy in GOTV or what have you...plenty that needs to be done in order to elect enough Democrats to stop the GOP and a renegade court. I seriously think a march on Washington would do nothing. The GOP and SCOTUS can read the polls, they know ending Roe is unpopular but they don't care. Thus a march with a billion people would not move them...the only way out is to elect enough Democrats to pass a law and possibly enlarge the court. It is also a waste of money that could be spent on the midterms.
brush
(61,033 posts)Voter registration is done, funds commitments are raised/made, as well as contacts for further action.
You really don't know that? Other actions get started.
SharonClark
(10,497 posts)Even organized a few. They are a lot of work and often do little more than make the attendees feel that theyve done all they need to do.
We need voter registration and GOTV, not rallies.
brush
(61,033 posts)we organize rallies and do voter registration at the same time. It's not complicated as rallies bring large crowds, and the best place to do voter reg is where there are large crowds.
I've done both. Voter reg at rallies is even more productive than at DMVs, shopping areas and SS offices, the usual places.
Why you can even recruit more voter reg volunteers.
