(25,610 posts)Does she want Congress to make a law to force companies to produce more formula?
Maybe jail the Board of Directors of these companies and replace them with Government appointees?
Nationalize the baby formula industry?

(20,728 posts)and refrigerated her milk for both of her babies. None of that manufactured bullshit for my grandchildren.
I guess republican women don't like to be treated like life-support systems for their children. Find a lactating Nanny then.
Freaking posers.

(15,629 posts)They used to call it "inanition" when babies died of starvation, back in the day. It wasn't uncommon.

(16,344 posts)Be careful - your privilege may be showing.
Why use formula? Some women need to return to work almost immediately. Not every employer provides enough time and space for a breastfeeding woman to pump. Not every woman has enough supply. Not every woman *wants* to breastfeed, and that's okay too.
I am lucky. I had a very friendly employer that had a room set up that I could use in peace. I was working a union job, so I had two breaks and a lunch hour. I was also doing a job that required me to go in the field frequently. There were quite a few times when I had to hook up the pump while driving down the road at 55+ mph so I could get back to the office in time to grab my kid(s) before daycare closed. It would've been easier to use formula for sure. I was just lucky that I could breastfeed my kids as long as I did. I was lucky that my daycare was in my building at work. (Where was my dh? His job required him to do a lot of traveling in our kids' early years; he worked two blocks from my building.)
But seriously, I was (and still am) in a profession that is really pretty much an office job. I don't work in a warehouse, or in food service. Folks with those sorts of jobs may not be able to easily breastfeed. They may actually need their jobs to keep a roof over the heads of their kids, or perhaps to pay for daycare.

(9,499 posts)The shut-down of the Abbott Nutrition plant in Sturgis, Mich. is a mega-problem because it was the major supplier of a specialty formula for infants with rare medical conditions. Those are the infants at great risk. Deadly risk! THATS the problem. It is a crap-ton more than an inconvenience.
You just cant switch to a different brand or cobble together your own alternative.

(1,182 posts)about how the largest manufacturer of baby formula had to shut down one of their factories because of unsanitary conditions, causing tainted formula (bacteria), resulting in infant sickness and mortality.
So.. less regulation then? That would be her solution, right?
