of sepsis from an ectopic pregnancy (I think I have my medical terms right, but if not, you get the idea). There was no chance the baby would survive, but they wouldn't allow an abortion to save the mother.

Years ago, I worked with a woman who had an ectopic pregnancy. She nearly died, but her doctor did the right thing, even though it was before 1973. This is in Illinois.
