(4,557 posts)RCID is a special improvement district created by the state, they can dissolve it just as easily as they can create it.

(4,557 posts)The State can not directly target Disney with a law that only applies to them. But the recent law that was passed does not only dissolve Disney's improvement district, it applies to a few others as well.

(12,809 posts)even though we all know why the law was passed. They said the quiet part out loud.

(2,252 posts)and hopefully DeathSantis after the Florida voters face HUGE tax increases because of the petty, self serving DeathSantis.

(39,120 posts)They've barely even begun to fight back.
DeSantis can probably pull this off, but it will be costly. His GQP voters won't care, because Stigginit.

(12,809 posts)I can't imagine Disney not fighting back against this. If Disney is not fighting back, then they must see something that we, the public, don't... which is probably that this is not an immediate threat or not a threat at all.

(2,541 posts)There is a lot of money there that Disney has been using for public (Disney corporat) good. Can't have THAT nonsense!

(2,343 posts)Surely they can do something to hit back hard at Douchesantis. Number 1, STOP DONATING TO FUCKING REPUBLICANS!!! Number 2, make your next cartoon or movie centered around a piece of shit politician named Don Resantis that is fucking up everyone's lives and the only force who can stop him is a team of atheist LGBTQ characters.

Here is the relevant part:
"In order for the Legislature to dissolve an active independent special district created and operating pursuant to a special act, the special act dissolving the active independent special district must be approved by a majority of the resident electors of the district or, for districts in which a majority of governing body members are elected by landowners, a majority of the landowners voting in the same manner by which the independent special districts governing body is elected. If a local general-purpose government passes an ordinance or resolution in support of the dissolution, the local general-purpose government must pay any expenses associated with the referendum required under this paragraph."
As it states, an act by the Florida Legislature dissolving a special district such as Reedy Creek must be approved by the majority of resident electors or landowners in the district. It would be the latter if the majority of governing body members are elected by landowners. The latter is in fact the case, so Disney must approve this.
Also, more importantly, when you use the power of the government to retaliate against an entity for disagreeing with those in government who are in power, that is a violation of the First Amendment.
Disney could win in court using either of the two approaches.
Edited to add a quote mark.

(6,584 posts)He is quoted: "That debit will not end up going to any of these local governments, it's not going to the state government either. It's going to absolutely be dealt with (by) the taxpayers who are currently in the district."
How does this make sense?
