They knew what happened to Ukrainians captured in 2015. Some of the news leaked into the West, but nobody much cared.
The Azovtsy assumed they'd be killed. It won't go well for Zelenskyy if they are. They were probably about beaten down. Hard to face death, watching comrades get wounded and die around you while you suffer, for week after week. I'd at least have required that before the Azovtsy were taken out that OSCE or UN or Red Cross (non-Slavic) be present to monitor and document the # of evacuees and their state.
Ukraine's said repeatedly that those evacuated, not just POWs, haven't been allowed access by RC or Ukr consular folk. But Russia agreed to both, meaningless utterances from a meaningless government.
