https://www.axios.com/2022/05/17/amber-heard-johnny-depp-trial-social-mediaThe defamation trial between actors and former spouses Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has quickly amassed more online attention than some of the country'sy biggest and most pressing news stories, including the leaked Supreme Court decision and Russia's war in Ukraine.
Why it matters: While political America hangs on an impending Supreme Court verdict on abortion, many more eyeballs are focused on developments in the Depp-Heard trial.
Driving the news: News articles about the trial, which began April 12, have generated more total social media interactions (likes, comments, shares) than coverage about abortion and the Supreme Court or inflation, according to exclusive data from NewsWhip.
On a per-article basis, the trial has dwarfed all other major topics in the news (see chart above).
(Excerpt)
Regarding the trial, this is the first Ive heard of it.

She is also a terrible actor throughout all this. Ugly cry face with no actual tears.

(2,971 posts)Its almost certain that I saw news feeds that mentioned the trial, but I normally skip over such headlines without them registering. They interest me about as much as the morning farm futures report.

(11,761 posts)Your headline/story shows how many are! Plus, it's almost daily news alert. You're dismissing your own post.😆

(2,971 posts)I recall someone asking me something about Kim Cardassian (sp?) a few years ago. Id heard the name, and that was the extent of my knowledge regarding her. Apparently my level of disinterest and ignorance of such matters is a bit unusual.

(11,761 posts)I don't know which one is suing the other, don't know why, but, I have definitely heard of this bs, because news alerts on my phone. I also get news alerts about Ukraine, President Biden, etc... News I will check out if I'm not at work. I get why lot of folks might be interested though, National Enquierer or Stars, type mag rags at the checkouts... The papers folks take home in a brown paper bag. 🥸

Sympthsical
(9,067 posts)I looked around just to confirm. CNN, MSNBC, NYT, all down at the bottom in a blurb. Buffalo didn't help, naturally, but they weren't covered much even then. If I weren't on political boards, I probably wouldn't have known they were happening.
I keep trying to explain, marching for a few hours does not do what it used to. It isn't the 1960s.
That said, the Depp-Heard trial is enthralling. I've never seen someone get wrecked like that on the stand before. I've been listening to it while working/doing homework. It's some wacky shit.
