U.S. Republican representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has told women that if they do not want to get pregnant they should stay celibate, at an anti-abortion speech she posted on Twitter on Tuesday.Addressing onlookers, Greene, who is a representative for Georgia's 14th congressional district, said: "Women need to make better choices. If we want to be women who make choices, here's one thing you can choose. If you don't want to become pregnant right now, choose to not have sex.
"You can always abstain."...

That's a lot of what this is about for the anti-choice crowd. They think unmarried women shouldn't be having sex

(7,785 posts)I don't believe anyone should be regulated but ... If a woman has sex with 100 random men in a year, she can only produce one full term pregnancy. If a guy has sex with 100 random women in a year, he can produce 100 full term pregnancies. So why exactly are we only talking about regulating women?

(25,961 posts)R's want women to have sex and lots of it so they get pregnant and have babies that will not get educated, will work for pennies, have no healthcare and no protection and get sick or injured and die young. That's what repugs want - everything for rich straight white males, nothing for anyone else. They want to shame women by saying don't have sex so that sets up conflict with men where women are pressured to have sex, then scorned and abandonned when they get pregnant - because of course men had nothing to do with it.

(4,131 posts)I'm one of the old ladies that remembers life before Roe. My roommate and myself were on the pill and I never thought about getting pregnant . The pill was 99.9% protection . It cost $9.99 a month and I don't know why I remember that.
I keep hearing people say stop having sex. Why would a young woman stop having sex when there's birth control? Unless of course something happened to birth control that I'm not aware of

(80,426 posts)Women who cannot use birth control, or have access to abortions are back to the old days. Women had a hard time getting an education or training because they had children to take care of.
They had limited access then to good jobs to support themselves or children.
And if they are having children every year like in the old days, it is hard to leave an abusive marriage. Back in the day, women were stuck in bad marriages for this reason.
Modern women were able to leave, they had options.
Take away women's options, they are stuck.
With a reliable and safe birth control method, and access to legal abortions, women had a freedom that was unparalleled in human history.
