"...the Democratic primaries are revealing a shift in strategy for the party as it chooses candidates for tough races in purple and red states.
Rather than go with a moderate white candidate who could appeal to swing voters as the party has done in several races in recent election cycles, voters chose candidates Tuesday more in tune with the party's base in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Kentucky.
In North Carolina, former North Carolina Supreme Court chief justice Cheri Beasley, a progressive Black woman, easily won after clearing the field early in the election cycle. In Kentucky, Charles Booker, a Black state senator who ran without a challenge after surprising the Democratic establishment when he nearly defeated its chosen candidate two years ago. In Pennsylvania, John Fetterman ran an aggressive, outside the box campaign, beating Rep. Conor Lamb, a cautious and moderate candidate.
All three candidates are more progressive than candidates Democrats usually run in swing states. It's unclear how well they'll do in a statewide general election, but their primary wins are a sign party leaders and Democratic voters no longer see centrism as the only or best path to victory in purple and red states..."

(21,446 posts)went along with Fetterman. They did everything to try to get the moderate Lamb elected. It was the people of Pa. (me) who decided to elect the progressive candidate.
I guess that's what your post is saying also.

(489 posts)Personally for me and others don't care if he's more progressive than lamb. He's going to be a party leader in the future.
Big John is obviously a more unabashed progressive than Lamb is, but it is WAY more than that.

(32,833 posts)I believe he'll set the "establishment Dems" at ease so they'll become more comfortable with him. Also Big John will never stop reaching out to independents and disaffected GOP voters, and (I believe) he'll bring many new voters in this year. Don't forget that he had the endorsement of Gov. Wolf first, before he ever started campaigning. Didn't Sen. Bob Casey come out for him too? In the end they will all be on Fetterman's side.

Saw a number of his appearances when he was running for LT Gov, and every time during his speech, he said he would gladly lose his race if it ensured that Wolf won the Governorship, because he knew he was a good person, and it a way more important office.
That is kind of selfless, servant leadership on his part is going to be returned in kind from someone like Wolf.
