Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) says $8B in economic aid to Ukraine is "crap": "A lot of that is almost certain

to go to waste."

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) called the $8 billion economic aid to Ukraine a “crap” while talking to co-host Michael Knowles in Verdict with Ted Cruz, on Wednesday.

Cruz explained his support for the $40 billion in additional aid to Ukraine citing most of the funding was necessary to help the war-torn country.

But he claimed that the $8 billion that is supposed to go to Ukraine for economic assistance would actually end up going to waste. He blamed the consequence of the bill on President Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer, and Nancy Pelosi.

“I think some of it will go to corruption. Some of that, who knows, could end up in some oligarch's yacht in the Baltic Sea,” he alleged.

I was going to say Cruz must know his shit, literally, but it seems he needs a serious geography lesson.

President Biden is on track to reduce the deficit by over a trillion dollars in 2022 over the deficit rung up in 2021 under the terms of the last year of the former guy's administration. Even if every penny of that $8 billion is wasted, it's paid for at least 125 times over.

Sen. Cruz, you are cordially invited to sit down and have a nice steaming cup of shut the fuck up.

Check my posts.

At the same time, as of last December the general attitude was that Ukraine was fairly corrupt. Part of this was old news--yes, it had been corrupt and was corrupt. Part was old and obsolete news--Zelenskyy had taken steps against at least one pro-Putin oligarch in the previous 9 months, so maybe there was hope that Ukraine would be on a vaguely less-corrupt path moving forward. Ukraine was a flawed democracy--but probably about as free as we are.

One can be both pro-Ukraine *and* acknowledge the true facts from one and two years ago.

I really want to see what Ukrainian politics will be like in 10 years. It's a thing worth living for, IMHO.
