They never make demands of you; the are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor, they dont resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they dont ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they dont need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they dont bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. Its almost as if, by being born, they have died to you. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus but actually dislike people who breathe.
Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn.

(42,423 posts)Why is no one listening to my proposal?
Any pregnant woman (by choice or not) should be permitted to vote once for herself and once for her unborn baby. They're telling us that unborn babies have rights too, so how can it be a problem? This would crystallize a lot of RWNJ misconceptions, I'm sure.

They are not people until they are medically viable. That means 24 weeks, or SIX MONTHS into a pregnancy. Until then they technically are non-viable fetuses.

(134,035 posts)are, until viability, biological parasites since they need a host to exist. ahhh, the sputtering, red-faced grrrrrrr.
And calling it a parasite does make them sputter in rage. But it's exactly what it is.
My Mom used to say, "Any animal can reproduce," which also set them sputtering. It's just biology and we're animals. The glorification and fetus fetishists and motherhood gets on my nerves, man. It's just biology.

(484 posts)I was arguing about abortion on the internet recently (yeah, I know
) and someone Id been "discussing" the issue with posted a question (paraphrased) "who is the uterus for, you or the baby?" My response was that most plants and animals have organs that evolved to be dedicated to reproduction and arent sooper-dooper special or to be revered. Plus its MY uterus and its my choice what to do with it!
It is just biology, not some sacred occurence.
They never responded in the thread again.

(6,115 posts)We all need to push back. Reproduction is a natural thing that all animals and plants do and it does not make one special. Nor is it anyone else's business.
I remember when my first MIL was pushing us to have kids. I told her, "My uterus is my business."
"Who is the uterus for?" Seriously? All animals have reproductive organs. Only as humans, WE can control whether or not to use them. Who is sperm for?

(3,419 posts)to make a point - and it's well stated. It's used to form a counterpoint to
the way "pro-life" people think about the unborn which is to over value
embryos and fetuses at the expense of the born and underprivileged.
Barnhart is in no way pushing an anti-choice narrative - but rather
speaking to the hypocrisy of so0called pro-lifers. You get that right?
