These bills look to me like a major attempt of the 1% to grab more for themselves or yet just another law that protects the rich at the expense of the average person. Much more than just downloading movies and music without paying for it. I am very aware that there are a lot of people in the US that buy their pharmaceutical products from offshore sites that include India, Canada, Brazil to name just a few. Most if not all of these drugs are genuinely good and effective. To a person without money or insurance it is daunting to pay a doctor (if they can) only to be given a prescription that is out of their financial means. I have personally observed the situation that was $30.00 a month from India or $300.00 per month her in the USA as a choice for a member of my personal family. I have compassion for our own people and think denying them lower cost alternatives is not going to be a decent thing to do. I do understand there is a negative side like teenagers getting drugs without a prescription but taking down the person that will have no choice at all is not good either. Well imbedded in the intent of these bills is the intention to shut down all foreign pharmaceutical websites.

(62,444 posts)And you know this how?
Spelling "pharmaceutical" wrong once is a typo.
Spelling it the wrong way consistently several times seems to suggest something else.

According to a report released by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), 75 percent of fake drugs supplied world over have some origins in India, followed by 7 percent from Egypt and 6 percent from China.[8]

(18,795 posts)I saw someone who was born and raised in this country, has a degree and a good job, write "delishous".
There are many from this country who do not spell properly - they may be dyslexic.

There is a huge demand for cheaper drugs, because of the crappy health insurance in this country.
Obama campaigned on getting cheaper drugs.
That there is a huge fake drug industry does not mean all are fake.
Funny that Republicans are in favor of cross-state insurance plans, but not cross-country.
And there is much fakery in this country as outside.

The drugs are the same and in some cases superior as the FDA can be full of it at times.
The costs in many countries are small percentages of what the price is in the US. US consumers are getting absolutely screwed by the pharmaceutical companies... not to mention the stranglehold that medicine has over the pharmaceutical industry.
Here, if I have a simple problem... say asthma, or allergies from the dust storm. I just stop by the pharmacy and purchase what I need no prescription necessary for most items.
One aspect I will hate when I return to America is having to deal with the medical system.

(1,386 posts)Ok I can accept criticism so I have spell checked my article and posted it again.
It seems like if you dont post a link no one wants to believe you as if links are perfect all of the time. Here is a link from me. You can even buy from specific Indian pharmacies and check their reputation on the internet.

I find it ironic that in the next and last sentence in the paragraph posted by jberryhill, that what you omitted from your quote is actually supportive of what I am trying to say.
According to a report released by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), 75 percent of fake drugs supplied world over have some origins in India, followed by 7 percent from Egypt and 6 percent from China.[8] However, India also is a leading manufacturer and exporter of high-quality generic and patent drugs.
