(11,767 posts)Then again, I do not typically listen to mainstream media.
I don't doubt what Tiedrich is saying to be accurate, just saying that I heard a good deal about Thomas' plotting and nothing about a pot for the VP.
Media is weird. They try to blur the lines between politics and celebrity and they report whatever sells, not what is important to know (unless it is salacious enough to sell).

(7,864 posts)VP Harris and the Second Gentleman went to France where they bought an expansive saucepan. It was the type that you keep for life, not just for a decade or so then throw out. Naturally magats freaked out.

I guess Republicans hate French things. Harris's tuna melt cooking video had her using a Le Creuset skillet instead of one of the American brands.

(53,410 posts)With my tendonitis I cant handle super heavy pots and pans. It was great cooking in them, but its nice to be able to pick the pots up!

(51,268 posts)Yes, it's very scandalous that she spent so much on stuff to feed her family for life.
This type of cookware gets passed down to grandchildren in a will. But the Fox News hacks are counting on the fast food types to think she's living a high flying luxurious lifestyle while groceries are expensive

(6,680 posts)The American Way is to buy a $50 flimsy set from WalMart that was made by Chinese slave labor and sold by a store that uses public welfare to subsidize its workers' wages while the owners are the richest family in America, use it for a few years until it breaks down, then throw it in a landfill and go buy another.
USA! USA! USA!
Ugh.

(11,767 posts)She is a successful woman with money that she earned, and the VP, which nets a good salary. She can't spend $500.00 of her own money to buy quality items?
When you have Tucker Carlson, who is the heir to frozen food fortune, who really hasn't earned anything in his life. When you have the Trumps (including Donald) who inherited and grifted all of their wealth.
Shows the already well known hypocrisy when Trump was wasting tax payer money by making the Secret Service pay for golf, golf carts, and rooms at his own properties for his numerous golfing trips that he said he would NOT have time for because he was going to always be working.

(26,014 posts)turn their game back on them and highlight the excesses of Tucker Carlson, the Trumps, Besos and other elites?
We could do some OMG type stories about the corporate profiteers who live off of the sweat of employees who can barely survive on what they are paid, and about Republican votes that help them do that while denying wage raises to employees. Not just a jab at them here and there in cartoons or online article that are missed by many and quickly forgotten by the few who do see them. We should flood social media with memorable tags stuck on these people. We could enlist people like Colbert, Trevor Noah, and Jimmy Kimmel to popularize negative memes and tags on these people - tags that get the message across of corporate elites as social bloodsuckers and democracy destroyers. Push this hard to affect public opinion and voting choices.
Turn public (and MAGA) anger away from Dems and libs and toward the sources of social problems where it belongs. The anger is already there, stirred up by the RWNJs. Just redirect it.
Caliman73
(11,767 posts)It is happening on social media but largely ignored by the mainstream "liberal" media. Why? Because most media that is considered the mainstream media is largely owned by wealthy people or corporations. Not sure that people, even people like Kimmel, Colbert, and Noah would be allowed to persistently focus on the excesses of capitalism and capitalists.
wnylib
(26,014 posts)He's a "company man" type. Kimmel, maybe. Noah is most likely to do it in some way. He can be smooth about what he says, getting his point across without saying it in a way that people could effectively criticize.
Since most media won't cover something like this, individual people can make comments, e.g. at awards shows. Songs, comments at concerts are another way. Movies would be a great way to make these points, but they are corporate owned and so are many actors. Indy films could d0 it but they don't get large followings.
Music looks like the best way.

(40,037 posts)so she could properly cook with good stuff instead of Sam Club pots and pans. She can pass them down . Her old stuff cycled to one of her works friends, who was setting up a bachelor pad. I already showed the benefit of cast iron pots.

(3,980 posts)In my opinion, Tiedrich values emotion over fact and enjoys his role as a red-meat thrower. His contributions to political discourse are dubious at best and masturbatory at worst.
Google Kamala Harris Le Creuset pot: 440,000 results
Google Ginni Thomas insurrection: 2.5 million results
There's plenty to be mad about that's real.
Caliman73
(11,767 posts)A lot of people do that. That it was even a news story at all though, is plenty enough damning. Harris spending $500.00 of her own money to buy a quality pot is a non-story. Then again, what Beyonce or who ever the hell else wore to the Grammys is also a non-story to me.

(67,111 posts)Our venerable Fourth Estate has worked very hard to avoid upsetting Ginni & her co-conspirators. Even NPR, the flagship "liberal media" outlet has touched on the matter only sparingly and without making any waves.
It would be refreshing indeed to see our media do something responsible, but I'm not holding my breath.

(9,068 posts)It's enamel coated iron; built to last a lifetime. It wasn't that expensive; about $300. at the time. They're now about $400.
A good cooking pot that should last at least 40-50 years will cost that much.
Not really a big deal.

(20,591 posts)They see their job as enhancing shareholder value. 🤑
What they report (or fail to report) as "news" is directly related to enhancement of shareholder value. 🤑🤑
First it was "news" as entertainment. Now they've settled into "news" as currency. If stories about republican graft and crime threaten their profit margin, you can bet there will be few reports about republican graft and crime.
