Profile in Courage Awards last night

Below is the link to the Kennedy Library Profiles in Courage awards ceremony. It is also available through the Kennedy library web site if you are uncomfortable clicking on the link. The recipients are Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Congresswoman Liz Cheney, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers, and former Fulton County, Georgia Election Department Employee Wandrea’ ArShaye Moss. Taking PM Zelenskyy or of the equation, the Kennedy's honored those who protected and are continuing to protect our democracy. It is about an hour long and worth watching it all. If you dont want to watch it all, minute 38-44 Mrs Cheney's comments capture part of why she is fighting this fight. I do not think of her as my political cup of tea, but, she is doing the right thing protecting our democracy.

As we hide behind the keyboard and user names here, and many of you don't know me, you will have to take me at my word that I am not a very emotional person. Kind of your classic Grumpy Old Man. Not very woke, would not be tagged with the term metro-sexual in a million years, just a gruff, hard old man. Old school Democrat, Hell yes, long supporter of the Party, Hell Yes, supporter of the platform, Hell Yes, Chicken in every pot guy, I donate money and time where and when I can. To me Ted Sorenson's Why I am a Democrat hits the nail on the head. FDR, JFK, Paul Wellstone, Tip O'Neill, Ted Kennedy, Barack Obama, all political heroes of mine.

I found myself in tears when Rusty Bowers and Liz Cheney spoke. I did not cry when our democracy was under attack on 1/6, but found myself in tears watching this. Not much of a crier, I cried when my grandmother died, I cried when our family dog died, I cried when my children were born, I may have cried one other time in the last 30 years, but maybe not.

Speaker Bowers talks about not only our democracy and 1/6 and the danger it faces, but he also spoke about the emotional damage of the loss of his child and not seeing her because of Covid. I don't really know what to think from here.

I hope we can right the ship and save our democracy, but I found myself crying.....
